[.ca] One Way Ticket to Hell..& Back

Darkness does it again:
Fresh off their big hit Permission to Land the DArkness do not disappoint in their sophomore release; not taking themselves to seriously they can write songs about breasts 'Knockers' and get away with it, the album seems to be written in the same format as permission to land so if you like the debut you will definately like this release, the first single One WAy Ticket To Hell is already out and doesnt disappoint

one way ticket to rock .....and stay there:
This sophmore album is more than you'd expect from a band like the Darkness. While there first album, in my opinion, was great and brought a great rock sound to the front again, they seemed to be a bit of a novelty. FORTUNATLY they erase all traces of novelty and show that these guys are a premiere brittish rock band. Their lyrics, as in their debut, range from peculiar to down right out there. Please don't let that deter you because, while I am not comparing the two, THE WHO had some quirky lyrics as well, and we all know they are the best thing to come out of Britain. The album has great riffs awesome solos, and Justin's vocals seem to be more restrained, but he still lets loose when necessary. The sound qualtity of the album is fantastic. Clear with great BASE and DRUM sound. Too many bands these days, don't pay enough attention to letting all muscicians display there talent. It is because of this, and their incredible riffs, that you can't help but move with it. My Favorite tracks are "One way ticket," "knockers", and "Hazel eyes", the last one being an interesting mix of musical genres. It has them talking in a Scottish accent with bagpipes and marching drums. Fantastic. All in all, if you are a fan of the Darkness, this is a must. If this is the first time you have heard them then you will not be dissapointed, and if you are just looking for a harder sound that seems fun, grab it. They are the best thing to music today, I love them.

Wow!:
This is good stuff. I haven't heard guitar, drums, and diversity in a band since the 80's. The music just flows and flows. Awesome listening. Good stuff Darkness

A great album with minor faults:
The Darkness is a breath of fresh air amidst a legion of depressing sounding bands from the nineties. They also fill a great void left after the disappearance of one of the greatest bands on Earth-Queen. They prove that rock music can still be fun and joy. One Way ticket to Hell is a very nice album despite the legth of 35 minutes and could be great if all of the songs were good. But they aren't. The title track is very good but not excellent. Girlfriend is simply awful. It sounds worse than a bad Bee Gees song. Is it just me is an average song, not bad, with some à la AC/DC riffs. The good thing is that the rest of the album is awesome. Bald is the heaviest song on the album and one of the best. Hazel Eyes is fantastic, as well as Knockers and Blind Man ( a heartbraking ballad, I am sure the guys from Queen will like it). English Country Garden is also a great song, again à la Queen. I think the album is a step further musically and vocally. The Darkness are still searching for their sound and have tried new things and most of them are great. I think they have to stick to the heavier material and the ballads. That's what they do best. And get rid of the cheesy poppy stuff.
