The HomeSettings lighting control starter kit manages the illumination system for your entire home. Choose Intermatic HomeSettings Products for Affordable Home Control Reliable safety, security and convenience are no longer luxuries reserved for millionaires and tech-heads. Intermatic is a leader in developing a reliable home control system with a reasonable price point, exceptional effectiveness and real ease-of-use that integrates seamlessly into any household. About this Lighting Control Starter Kit With the HomeSettings lighting control starter kit, you can experience all the benefits of home automation for a fraction of the cost. This kit gets you started on Z-Wave lighting control, so you can manage multiple lights and appliances in and around your home. By using Radio Frequency (RF) technology, Z-Wave components require no wiring, and since each module includes a repeater function, adding more modules to your Z-Wave network actually improves the system's reliability. The Z-Wave Starter Kit includes a master controller and two lamp modules, everything you'll need to start your radio-frequency network. In case of emergency, the master remote's ALL ON/ALL OFF buttons can warn would-be intruders away, and the integrated timing functions offer a variety of options. Set the Astronomic feature and you'll never have to reset the timer for day-to-day changes in sunrise and sunset times, or take advantage of multiple time options. These options include programming possibilities that will set your lights all week, 5 days, weekends, or individual days. Or, before you leave on vacation, activate the random timing option to give your home a lived-in look. There's even an automatic Daylight Savings Time function. The master remote is easy to set up, with an attractive design which blends into any decor; you can set it on a table or mount it on a wall, whichever is most convenient. It controls up to 12 channels at once, and each channel controls up to 16 devices. HomeSettings uses advanced Z-Wave technology -- a wireless mesh network that delivers reliable control of countless applications throughout your home. This outstanding system was voted Best Emerging Tech by the editors at CNET magazine in 2006; and it's exactly the sort of home protection measure that's recommended by the Burglary Prevention Council. An art collectors dream:
Wireless Starter Kit I have a collection of art that I have been using seperate timers on to illuminate the prints. This has been time consuming with the constant readjusting of "on" times, given the change in length of daylight and trying to keep them all in sync.Additionaly I have all my landscape lighting on seperate timers. All in all, I have been dealing with 10 seperate timers. I searched for a solution and lo and behold found the HA101K starter kit! I started out with 5 lamp modules and have more on the way.Programming the system is fairly easy if you follow the directions explicately(do not anticipate the next step). I had my system of 5 modules up and running in about 20 minutes. I love the fact that using the astronomic feature alleviates the need to constantly readjust "on"and "off" times.... The only drawback is the fact that this unit has no provisions for the new DST schedule, it only recognizes the old DST change times.... No big deal since the other features of this system more than make up for the minor inconveniece of changing settings twice a year ! Also, Homesettings.com has video tutorials on it's website, that are extremely helpful in setting up this system. Purchase with complete confidence that you will love this timesaver!

A great very basic home automation starter kit:
The Intermatic Home Wireless Kit is a home automation device that uses Z-Wave technology to control wireless lighting and appliances. Z-Wave is fairly good technology and all Z-Wave products are fully compatible with each other (including those not made by Intermatic). Intermatic seems to be one of the leaders in this industry so I was eager to try out their starter kit. This kit includes one master controller and two lamp modules. This is a very basic kit and if you want to add additional modules, things could get very expensive. But the good part of that is you don't have to buy a bunch of stuff you don't need, and can buy things module by module. The initial thing I noticed about the Intermatic kit is that installation is extremely easy. Anyone can do it and no contract work or electrical knowledge is installed. I used both the lamp modules, which have on/off switches, so you don't really need the remote control if you misplace it, which is a plus. Setup for the lamp modules literally took about 30 seconds. It is extremely easy to associate a device with the master control. once setup, I went about programming the modules. This was also very easy. I set it up as if I was leaving for the weekend, and had my lamps cut on in the evening and turn off the next morning. You can specify exact times for the lamp modules, so you can even use this as a form of "alarm clock." I found it very convenient for turning on a lamp in the morning in case I tried to snooze through my regular alarm. If you wanted to, you could also randomize the modules so it looks like someone is home. Another great feature is that this unit does not forget the programming when you change the batteries or if the power goes out. I do a lot of work on my house and frequently have to cut off the main circuit breaker. This doesn't affect the modules since the programming is stored in the master remote, which has a backup battery so it retains the programming in case of battery removal. This can be very useful when more and more modules are added. My one con about this kit is the remote control. It is just too big and bulky. It looks like something from the late 90s. I don't want to keep something like that on my coffee table. I realize that once you ad more modules, you're going to need more controls, but it would be nice if the master remote was a little more streamlined. Luckily the modules were hidden behind my couch, because they're somewhat big as well. But you can't really expect much from a home automation kit this cheap. Additionally, I also ordered the Intermatic Home Settings Wireless Indoor Wall Switch #HA06C and the Intermatic Home Settings Wireless Handy Remote Control #HA09C and was very impressed with these. I know this isn't a review for those two products, but I wanted to say that anyone thinking of ordering this starter kit and who enjoys it, should look at those two modules next. The remote control had all of the features I needed from the one that came with this kit but was much more compact. Overall, the Intermatic Home Wireless Kit is a very decent package for someone who wants very basic home automation. It is also great because of the level of customizability it comes with and the dozens of additional modules you can order for it. For those looking for more advances options, you can add computer software that works with Z-Wave technology to setup much more elaborate programming and routines.

just an "ok" replacement for x-10 system:
isn't exactly 100% reliable so don't get your hopes up. i found it to be on par with the x-10 system as far as reliability. i was planning on upgrading my x-10 system to zwave, but haven't been completely impressed yet.

Work well, but..:
This is a really cool system and has a lot of potentials in my opinion. The system can control 6 different devices with different on/off time. You can set them to sun rise/sun set or specific time. It even picks out sun rise/set time based upon the region of the US you live in. There are all kinds of applications for this type of systems. All that said, be prepare to spend a few hours to set this up. It is not straight forward that you can set it up w/o reading the manual. You have to connect each module, i.e pairing it to the control module, separately and if you unplug the module you need to pair it again. I don't know Z-Wave technology so a little worry at first of interferences. But found that this system operate fine with everything else I have (wireless network, remote control, wireless headphone..). If you travel often and need something to turn devices on and off in your home, you should consider this system. Very reliable and can even operate as dimmers.
