[.ca] The Adventures of Superman: The Complete Third and ...

Super-Fun but a Bit Disappointing:
Overall, this is a great DVD set; the price is reasonable, and it is very nice to take a gander at "Silver Age" Superman adventures. It's a lot of fun; especially so if you can forgive some over-acting and poor scripts at times. After all, back in the day Superman was marketed primarily for youngsters. These were the days when the whole family were to be entertained without having a parental advisory attached. Parents needn't be worried about fowl language or extreme violence, but still have an entertaining and rewarding experience themselves. The disappointment comes in that there are still flaws with the picture quality. Especially the intros which look as if it was copied from someone's old bootleg videotape. The episodes themselves suffer from faults throughout but are small overall. There is a minor amount of graininess to the episodes, but overall they're not that bad. Perhaps the film quality couldn't be completely restored and remastered, or this is how they kept the box set so affordable. Still, I highly recommend this set: *It's a nostalgia treat for any comic fan who remembers or loves the Superman stories of old. *It's a great way for those who want to get a glimpse of an icon in a simpler, friendlier format, where the hero doesn't have to rip off limbs or decapitate someone to achieve his goal. (Or, where he doesn't have an illegitimate child, for that matter!) *It is for anyone who wants an escape from the real world in general; who wants some care-free fantasy and adventure. *It's a great way for parents who want their children to be introduced to Superman, or simply a show that is family friendly. *It's a must have for any Superman collector or enthusiast. So, although, the adult in me may scrutinize the picture quality a bit, and can sometimes roll his eyes at some of the scripts, overall, I'm extremely happy with this box set! It soothes my inner child as it makes me remember how amazing and awe-inspiring Superman was to me back then! \oSupergirl still does that, but her cousin not anymore.\c
