Modfather Never Better: This is a great representation of Paul Weller's past, present and future. I saw Weller live in Toronto (my sixth time)and his fire and skill have never been more honed and more raw since I first saw him live in support of his debut solo album in the early 90's. Coincidentally, the first and last times I saw him perform his solo stuff, he had yet to release the CD he was supporting at the time, and on both occasions, the unheard tracks translated as well, if not better than previously known material; a sign of strong song-writing and energetic, committed performing. I've been an ardent fan of his since the Jam days and I can say that he has never been better. I've seen his acoustic performance live and his "Days of Speed" CD captures his spirit in a much more intimate setting just as "Catch-Flame" captures his incendiary spirit on stage, where he has always thrived. This recording captures an extremely tight-sounding band as well as an intimacy reminiscent of the smaller venues he played in North America. This is a "must" for Weller fans, but also a great introduction for people who have never heard of him.
