[.ca] Back At The Whisky

Tommy LeBoeuf:
Johnny Rivers is one the few remaining living legends in my opinion, and this cd is in a class of it's own (they just don't make them like this anymore). This cd is totally live, and recorded in excellent quality. There is not one bad song on the cd. These versions of Johnny songs are perfect. Yes his classics are here and these are better than the originals (Maybelline, Poor Side of Town, Memphis), but the highlights on the cd are the less famous songs such as 'Baby Can I change my mind', 'China', and 'Just to Hold My Hand' which is a song that Johnny used to play a long long time ago in one of his first bands back in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Johnny includes some new covers (and some new arrangments) of some classic songs such as 'Sea of Hearbreak', 'The letter', and 'He'll Have to Go'. The cd's highlight is when Johnny performs 'Baby I need your Lovin', as this extended version includes help from the crowd as Johhny interacts with the crowd...totally moving.... Finally, Johnny ends this cd with a soft version of Slow Dancin. This cd is highly recommended....

The Legend!:
The Legend is back. I love the CD, just on time. Mr. Rivers is impeccable, one of the best guitar player ever. His voice takes you to heavens. I love "Back at the Whyskey". Hope see more of Johnny!

Simply the Best from the Best!:
If youve never sampled the music of one of the true pioneers and most influencial of recent rock stars, add this one to your collection right away. I guarantee youll then be snapping up the back catalogue with gusto. Johnny Rivers remains one of Rocks true under-rated singer songwriter performers and with this album he retraces his debut at the legendary Whisky a go go. This time though the recording quality and tightness of his band fully complements the artistry of the man as he swings, rocks and laments us through a musical journey spanning a career of some 40+ years. Maybe he will get the true plaudits he deserves one day, but until then get into this big-style, and enjoy! From Maybelline (best version ever of this song) to Secret Agent Man, this album has it all. I dont think there has been a more meaningful record release in years and this one is a must. Rock On Johnny!

John Henry Ramistella:
This is the best of all his live albums, PERIOD. Johnny has made a career of remakeing (covering) songs, usually better than the original recording. The pick of the litter is the remake of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home". Go buy this CD and support the best artist to have ever been snubbed for so long by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame(Shame on them!).
