[.ca] Boys And Girls In America

Where has rock gone? Hold Steady, it's right here!:
Rock n' Roll is not dead but rather it's been buried in small clubs throughout the northeastern United States. For those that are tired of the same old whiny "rock" being regurgitated by bands such as Nickelback, it's time you check out The Hold Steady. "Boys and Girls in America" is the third offering from the Brooklyn based band. While their first two albums, 2004's "Almost Killed Me" and 2005's "Separation Sunday" both received critical acclaim, neither were met with the outstanding sales response. As much as I hate to admit it, "Boys and Girls in America" will in all likelihood follow suit. One thing I know for sure is that it has equals the greatness of the previous two albums. For those who have not experienced The Hold Steady, the best way to sum them up would be a modern day Tom Waits meets the E Street Band. There are plenty of piano's, great guitar riffs, and vocalists Craig Finn's familiar spoken word singing form. If you are tired and growing jaded of current mainstream rock, then take the time to check out not only "Boys and Girls in America" but also the previous two offerings from The Hold Steady. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely great rock and roll:
I will never have enough of a good thing when it comes to The Hold Steady. I will never rock out so hard in my car in my life as I have been. I will never miss another concert that comes to Toronto by The Hold Steady. I will, however, tell you this album is perfect for our time, perfect for right now, perfect for tomorrow, and simply put, perfect. Until you listen to the album repeatedly, will you be able to capture the full effect of the album that only gets better with every listen. I've had some massive nights, hung out in a chillout tent, and been stuck between stations...all in what was a perfect party night. If you love inebriation of all kinds, you'll relate to this album as though it's a chapter in your life story.

the hold steady:
Like an American Jarvis Cocker, Craig Finn narrates tales of kids who dance and drink and screw cuz they've got nothing else to do-- and he does it all with a depth and scope rarely seen in contemporary rock. On his band's new album, the divisive group have changed some things that will make it more palatable to doubters yet could disappoint older fans: Finn sings more than speaks, and his lyrics have a big-picture approach, allowing listeners to fill details of their own lives into the songs rather than be required to commit fully to those of his characters. The end result, however, is another great album from the Hold Steady, with Finn demonstrating grit and spunk and wit and intelligence in each track.
