[.ca] Crowded House: Farewell to the World

Great DVD . . . great bonus tracks:
One of their best concerts -- now in an great restoration with amazing 5.1 surround sound. The highlight for me, though, were the bonus tracks on the 2nd disc: demo versions of "Spirit of the Stairs," "Instinct," and "Italian Plastic." These were worth the price of admission alone.

Great concert from a great band:
I have been waiting for a long time for this concert to become available as a DVD (saw it on PBS several years ago) and I finally was able to buy this 10th anniversary edition that was just released (go it for Christmas from Amazon...thanks for carrying it). I find it interesting that usually when I read reviews of Crowded House, or the Finn brothers works that so many of them come from Canadians. This is a band that was very popular here and in their native lands of Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps had US fans been more appreciative of the band's music they would not have broken up (who knows except Crowded House). This was truly a Farewell concert because the band never played again after this show. There were 120,000 fans at the show, played outside the Sydney Opera House, and the boys do not disappoint. Neil is an outstanding songwriter and musician, and his bandmates are at their peak. Neil's brother Tim shows up for a couple of songs (he was part of the band during the Woodface album). As the concert progresses it becomes clear on the faces of the band that the end is near...their emotions are palpable, especially during the last song, their mega hit Don' Dream Its Over. Paul Hester looks like he is crying through a good part of the song...it is poignant especially with the knowledge that he recently committed suicide. I highly recommend this DVD.
