From Amazon.com: The Motown maestro makes a smooth entrance onto the Desert Inn stage in Las Vegas and seems to get, well, winded halfway through the opening number, "More Love." Yikes. Smokey Robinson isn't hitting his full range here, certainly not approaching his trademark, celestial cry of desire and sensual fulfillment. One wonders how this indispensable architect of pop-soul is going to make it through another 17 songs, including a lengthy medley, in this 1998 concert. But by the fourth tune, a rousing take on his old Miracles hit, "Shop Around," Robinson is warmed up and pacing the slow release of his mature vocal gifts. It's typical of the man: everything about his art is controlled ecstasy in which every moment counts, and the full journey is its own beautiful reward. Backed by an outstanding band that takes a respectful but nimble approach to his classic arrangements on "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," "The Tracks of My Tears," and "I Second That Emotion," Robinson builds a majestic vocal bridge between gospel- flavored funk glory and delicate orchestral constructions. In no time, we're in his pocket. "Ooh Baby Baby" comes as a wave of masculine remorse couched in slow-dance splendor: adult experience in youthful form, the genius of Motown. "I Want a Love I Can See" and "More Than You Know" lead us to the peak of Robinson's gorgeous expression, earning him the right to play directly to the ladies in the audience with the touching corn of "I Love Your Face." The final performances, "Just to See Her" and "Going to a Go Go," take us from the wistful to the epic, the true scale of Robinson's brilliance. --Tom Keogh

smokey is smokin': This is the master song writer, singer, entertainer at his best!!! His voice resononates from the screen, drawing the viewer in and making them feel as if he is singing right to them. Truly wonderful and a must have for any fan of Smokey Robinson or even Motown.
SMOKEY IS STILL THE MAN: I have followed Smokey's career for many years. Watching this DVD certainly brought back memories of great times. This is a "must see" concert and I got to tell you, "Smokey is still the man" and he does an outstanding job on this night. You won't be disappointed and I certainly was not disappointed. I watch concerts every friday night in my home as a great stress reliever. This concert was a great addition to my collection. Buy it and enjoy. I bought it and I am enjoying it very much.
SIMPLY THE "BEST": I have been a Smokey fan since the sixties when he came on the scene. The think what they did at Motown back then will never be duplicated in any shape, form or fashion. Since Motown will not release footage of concerts from their former acts...it was really great to get this DVD. I play it all day on weekends and his CD's everyday on my way to work. I saw Smokey Robinson at the Resorts International in Atlantic City June 7, 2003 and he still got it. His voice gets better with age and so does he. You feel like you are the only person in the concert hall. I wish there were more concerts of his on DVD, I have the other one too. Keep doing what you do BEST...Simply the Best.
My Man Smokey: I love this CD and of course Smokey. I have followed his career since I he first released Oooooooooo BABY. I've seen Smokey in person and concerts...This is the BEST YOU can get.
More Love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: I have been a Smokey fan for many many years.I have a very large collection of Smokey's music. Over the years, I've been able to obtain his music from the beginning of his career with Motown. I had the pleasure of seeing Smokey perform in Pennsylvania. His concert was fantastic. His voice is unique, no-one can imitate his smooth style. Several months ago, I watched his performance on VHS(Smokey's Greatest Hits Live) performed in Las Vegas at the Desert Inn and I can truly say that his singing mesmerized me. It gives you the feeling that every song he sings is directed to you personally. I also have on DVD his Standing Room Only concert live from Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both are a must have. Smokey you are LEGEND of all time. We Californians' are truly blessed to have SMOKEY on one of our local radio stations, Let's get INTIMATE with SMOKEY. Love Ya!!!!!!!!!!!!
