A reward for the patient listener.: "Where the Bungalows Roam", unlike Bryson's 2004 "North Side Benches", won't seize you on the first listen. It's an album of restraint and craft, but of beauty and charm also. There's nothing superfluous here, only solid song writing. In retrospect, you'll likely decide it is better than much of the hyped and obligatory indie music you bought with overinflated expectations at around the same time (and it will make you wonder why Jim Bryson is regarded hardly at all outside of his hometown, Ottawa). If you enjoy the undefined spaces where folk, country, and rock converge, and if you're willing to be patient, Where The Bungalows Roam will reward you. Do yourself a favour and add it to your music collection today.
