[.ca] Overlord

Great!!!:
Xbox 360 owners will be in for a treat with the release of Overlord. A top down RPG/RTS, well a very simple RTS, that just builds on the whole premise of being the bad guy, well being the straight man, bad guy with comedic, little minion sidekicks that oddly remind me of gremlins. The story is simple enough, you are the new Overlord, revived by your minions, you awake in a ruined tower, which you have to rebuild by finding artifacts that'll help in the re-build. You start with a modest three brown minions, the brown minions are by far the funniest. You warp yourself to this stunning land, this game looks beautiful, very lush, although the camera angle can get a little far away. The game itself is amazingly simple to control, you have an attack, which is very simple, spells that you find and improve over time, but most importantly you find more minions. Everything in this game depends on the minions. The browns will rush and destroy anything in their path, but here's the funny part they will loot and pillage for you, bringing back gold and weapons for themselves, like pumpkin helmets, or rat toques. As the game progresses you'll receive the help of other minions, fire, water, and earth, all with different abilities. Your mission asides the whole evil thing, is to restore balance to the land, the previous Overlord was defeated and killed by 7 heroes, that have become corrupted themselves after returning home. So I guess in a way you're the good guy in this game, with your funny little monster buddies, that sometimes drink too much and pee everywhere. Not to say this game doesn't suffer from drawbacks, like after you defeat a hero, the land doesn't change that much, actually the hero cutscene will still be accessed when you enter their area. The camera can sometimes move back aways or get way too close, no happy medium. Also the game can get a little boring with the whole concept of charging in sometimes. There are specific minion controls, actually the controls are tailor-made for minion control and not Overlord control, example when you loot a house, usually the Overlord is too big so you charge your little monsters in. But all in all, Overlord is a great game, concept and story. RPG fans might find this one fun, if you're looking for a change in your gaming experience.
