From Amazon.com: If, as some suspect, Beelzebub has a soft spot for hard metal, he'll be delighted with Slayer's raucous return to form on the group's eighth album. With producer Rick Rubin (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Run-DMC) back at the helm, the thrash-metal pioneers have trimmed the excess flab that weighed them down in the early '90s. Back in evidence is the clinical speed, power, and aggression that once made them metal's most revered extremists. But while their trademark breakneck riffing remains, Slayer reaches beyond the old routines to pack a greater punch. "Love to Hate" harbors a fat hip-hop groove, "In the Name of God" toys malevolently with grunge-rock flavors, and "Point" concludes the 11-song set at just under 110 miles per hour. Diabolus in Musica is an emphatic resurrection--and then some. --Steffan Chirazi
One of the best metal albums from a great metal band!!: Slayer has released another metal masterpiece here. This album is quite possibly one of the best metal albums from Slayer and I have never been disappointed with an album from Slayer. I was fortunate enough to get this album new and I would recommend buying this album new. Don't buy this album used. I have never bought any music used and I don't intend to. I believe that when it comes to music, it should be bought in the store and brand new and this one of those albums. Slayer has released a powerful metal album that is great from beginning to end.
One of the best metal albums and one of the best albums from Slayer.: I became a Slayer fan with the release of the live album, Decade of Aggression and I followed to Divine Intervention and Undisputed Attitude and this album. It's one of the best albums from one of the best metal bands of all-time. Slayer has released a metal masterpiece and Slayer represents exactly what heavy metal is supposed to be all about. Forget Zepplin. Forget Sabbath. Slayer could be the best metal band of all-time because they're consistent and this proves it.
Dare I say...Slayer's best?: I have been a Slayer fan before Reign in Blood broke all the rules regarding thrash, ferocity, and brutality. South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss remain masterpieces, worthy of continued praise. Than along comes Diabolus in Musica! Many "so called" die-hard Slayer fans complained the band comprised its roots by aiming this disc towards nu-metal fans. A veteran band like Slayer can't re-cycle music that shows a regression in ability. They needed to re-invent themselves, while not alienating thier fan base. Diabolus is Slayer! Powerfull, heavy as hell, brutal, and dare I say, they have incorporated some "groove". They have not comprised any of the savage approach that has made them the KINGS of metal. Standouts include: Bitter Piece, Stain of Mind, and Scrum. Is this their best album, I don't know, the album just kicks ASS!
A welcome return to brutality: This album is quite easily a classic slayer lp.the opening almost sabbath like riff on bitter peace knocks the hell out of anyone who thought they could sleep in whilst listening to this album!the next four tracks take on the form of the original thrashy slayer sound meets system of a down style timing. paul bostaph is in his element on this album as tracks like point and scrum will show.tom araya even delves into new vocal territory using pitchshifters and mild distortion to add further crunch n power to his already bone shaking voice.mr king n mr hannemann play at thier usual frantic pace but i feel that the solos lack what songs like angel of death and dead skin mask held dear to every slayer fans heart-pure noise!overall this is a great album, the highlight definately being point.all await the lp!
A good record: It's a cool record. Not up with the best of Slayer, but it's still pretty cool. Evil grooves, awesome bass, and Tom's signature sadistic growl. If you like Slayer, this is for you.
