A perfect player, but a bit too late to the market.:
Simply, the best audio/video player on the market. I had a Creative Zen device, an iPod, a Sansa, and finally settled on a Walkman. Audio quality is excellent; videos even on the small screen look sharp; navigation buttons and controls are intuitive and easy to use. Compared to all other players, the Sony gadget has incredible battery life. This is very important for me, because I use it non-stop for several hours a day( mostly for listening to lectures/podcasts and audiobooks). Another important advantage - the player doesn't lock you into a specific content management software, like iPod does. I've been able to hook it up to various computers and transfer files using MediaMonkey, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, iTunes, and whatever was available on my friends' computers. You can even use it without any special software! Just put your content into a folder, connect your Walkman to a USB port, and drag-and-drop your folder onto the device. This works especially well with podcasts and ad hoc music collections. Too bad it took Sony several years to figure out design for a good media player. I am afraid the market has already settled on iPods and Sansas. 4 stars out 5 because the play-time counter doesn't go beyond 999 minutes.

Best sounding MP3 player I've owned.:
I've tried several different MP3 players, and this is the best one I've owned. The included headphones are also excellent. The A818 is simple to use, and well designed. The "Media Manager Software" that is included is OK, but it is much better if you spend the few dollars and register it. You can just drag and drop your files on the Walkman, and you're ready to go. Battery life is excellent. Screen resolution is very good, but small. The best part is the incredible sound. I highly recommend it.

sony nwz a 818:
Wow this thing sounds great!! The volume could be a little higher but what you do have is quit remarkable in sound quality.The equalizer settings gives you hundreds of combinations. The clear bass is just that clear.I have never heard this kind of sound from an mp3 player. I teamed this with the Vibe bass reflex buds they really handle that good bass . With this much bass the mids and highs somtimes suffer but not on the sony 818 very crisp and great midrange. Navigation is smooth and down loading from media 11 is simple and fast.I think sony has a winner in this player . By the way the buds that came with player are pretty darn good but I just think the vibes are a little better in clear bass and higher volume output . I think anyone would be happy with this player.Oh yea this thing runs for ever on a charge too GREAT!!!!

OK player for low volume...:
I have the older NW-HD3 which is practically unobtainium and it's clearly far better when it's cranked up with the earbuds that go into the canal but the 818 is great for lower volumes and the less painful flat earbuds. While the HD3 sounds awesome turned all the way up, giving the fullest range I've ever heard from a mini mp3 player, the 818 starts missing something past about 19 on the volume. Might be a weak output chip or something because it sounds good below that volume. I keep the HD3 for at home when I really want to rock out and the 818 for everything else (travel, light listening). The 818 is certainly superior to the ipods that offer only presets for tone, I couldn't find one that I liked or sounded natural. On that subject, does anyone like the 818 weird settings like club and studio and whatnot? I mean they all sound horrible, like you're down the hall from the music, yuk!

BETTER THAN IPOD:
Just Listen to songs in this mp3 player! You will never want to listen to your IPOD!!!! Even the headphones supplied with the unit will sound like BOSE such good is the quality of the player! So, imagine if you connect Bose headphone to this unit!
