Empty calories are filling - Hollywood's fast food made movie: I am stunned by the number of reviews saying that the movie is fantastic. Yes, the CGI is brilliant. But when I spend my dollars to 'see' a movie, I expect there will be a good story behind the visual effects. In this case, what you get is a succession of rapid-fire clichés that are so 'in your face' that it's offensive... The main character is not good at school, and dreams of a girl who goes out with the school's bully - a football player... And this under-achiever finally gets the girl... There are cool cars, and a cool car chase (not as good as the one in the second matrix movie though)... Can it get more cliché than that I ask you? And most adults and authority figures are stupid to say the least... Only the military guys are OK, figures since Bay has to take care of his good relations with the Pentagon since 'Pearl Harbor'... The US government hiring teenagers (because they're soooo coool?) to hack into the Transformers as if the Pentagon and CIA just could not figure out by themselves how to do that is another example of how completely ridiculous the movie is. It is so unbelievable that it can't be fun... There is no imagination whatsoever in this movie... I'm not 15, and I don't expect movies to unfold like video games, so I hated this movie and almost stopped watching it after 40 minutes. When I returned the movie to the rental DVD club, one employee told me that most customers felt just like I did... But those customers, like me, were not 15... In a nutshell, this movie is for young teenagers even though the Transformers are 20 years old... I'm not happy to say that this is probably one of the 3 worst movies I've seen in my life, mostly because the two scenarists credited for writing Transformers have also written the scenario of the upcoming (Christmas 2008) Star Trek movie. After ruining Transformers to attract and please teenagers, expect Paramount to make Star Trek's reboot an idiotic but visually stunning movie for teens... It still gets 2 stars because of the visual FX, but I'm tempted to say that it deserves one at best...
terribleformers terrible director: awful !awful! awful! why is thier sexual contant in a supposely kids movie! did the tv show cartoon transformers have sexual contant in it! well I remember their was no sexual contant in it! poor poor poor directing in the movie all around poor acting, no story , no plot, most of all poor directing, should have got a different director!if i could i would give it zero star!
pour enfants: Bon effets spéciaux, les enfants vont aimer ca ou les vieux enfants.Je desconseille aux adultes!
When you're hot...your'e Hot!!: I was urged by some friends to get and watch this movie, knowing full well my first reaction was going to be to turn my nose up at it.And they were right.Every instinct in my being told me no.....no way on earth. After all this was just going to be another shameless marketing ploy by the toy company to exploit their product on the big screen. They had already done it once before(animated) and on TV and have sold gazillions of toys, comic books and other related paraphenalia. This is kids stuff, why in the world would I want to see let alone review such a thing? Well fresh after watching this movie I am still trying to catch my breath.I feel like I have just come off the biggest and baddest rollercoaster ride of my life. What a rush!! The movie starts off deceptively normal. Our protagonist is a young nerdy type kid whose said nerdiness is reinforced after we watch him give an oral report on his grandfather.Later his father takes hims to buy him his first car.He settles on a junker of an old camaro but wait....maybe the car is settling on him(?),almost "Christine"-like.The car the salesman wants to pawn off on him is almost wrecked by the car the boy wants! But the movie doesn't stop to examine or ponder anything. On we go. The next scene is a Socsan base in present day Qatar. The military escorts a helicopter(bogie)onto their base but all hell breaks loose when it transforms into a robot hell bent on the bases' destruction and downloading vital classified material. And from here the movie doesn't let up its' pace.Everything is played straight down the line including the military which is played like something out of "Black Hawk Down",very realistically and very deadly. Many plot devices are cleverly employed throughout this film to keep either us or the on screen characters in the dark until the proper moments. It moves on many levels and indeed works brilliantly throughout. Like the movie the wonderful cast also plays everything straight. This along with the spectacular special effects creates a you-are-there and a this-is-very-real feeling throughout. And as I mentioned before there are no apologies or stops to catch your breath any time in this film. It's a "if you didn't catch that kid...tough",kind of attitude. For example the smaller Decepticons are often seen talking and we are first given sub-titles(in hard to read white...purposely,I think!) in their language then a quick translation into English. But as they come up so fast and only periodically, your eyes aren't usually watching for them.By the time you try to catch them they are long gone. All part of the frenetic pace this film establishes and goes with right to the last frame. I watched the single disc version of this film so the only extras are a couple of trailers and that's it.For anyone wanting more I suggest you buy the double disc edition.Whatever edition you buy though the main attraction is the heart stopping, high adrenaline,no apologies thrill ride that will keep you glued to that screen from the first frame to the last. An amazing job done by all involved. Transformers.Who knew?
A very pleasant surprise: I, like many, had never been a big fan of the original series of Transformers and was not anticipating the live-action version. I ended up seeing the movie because I won some free passes. While I almost dreaded seeing it, that quickly changed when it began. This movie had almost everything one could want in a movie, cute actors (men and women), a love story, lot's of action, comedy and a dynamic story. Shia really steals the show in his role, showing what an interesting and unique actor he has become. The graphics were amazing, the transformers themselves were so well done, that you can almost believe that they are real. Definitely a must see, for both men and women - one of the best summer movies from the past couple of years!
