![]() One of the most pleasing and well-behaved of native ornamental grasses, 'Northwind' offers densely-packed, slender olive-green foliage topped with airy tassels that turn from green to silver and finally to gold over a long autumn-through-winter season. It is useful as a hedge, perimeter planting, screen, border background, or even specimen in the sunny garden. It reaches about 5 feet tall on plants that spread 2 to 3 feet wide, forming an inpenetrable mass of rich, dark color. But the real show begins in early fall, when the foliage is topped by masses of feathery blooms that begin pale green, then turn silver in autumn and finally pale gold in winter. 'Northwind' remains attractive nearly all winter, its foliage turning a rich shade of tan to match the gold blooms. Cut it down to the ground in late winter if you desire, and the new spring foliage will emerge denser than ever before. Vigorous but never invasive, this is a fine ornamental grass even for small-space settings. This Switchg Read the entire article at The Home Depot Categories:
