The Misadventures of the Intrepid Travelers

Follow the story of two Kansas teenagers and their growing family as they embark, in 1959, on a forty-five-year odyssey of travel and adventure. Weather, insects, and unscrupulous roadside merchants complicated things but did not deter the young travelers in their early ventures. Language and cultural differences lay ahead as they crossed the oceans to new destinations. These obstacles, however, only increased their zeal for foreign travel as they expanded their travel horizons in the later years. Along the way, the intrepid travelers became fascinated by the world's mountains. They were drawn to the slopes by their love of a challenge, but few climbing attempts went as planned. Somehow, in spite of the many problems encountered, most summits were conquered. Sometimes poignant, occasionally gripping, The Misadventures of the Intrepid Travelers is mainly a humorous account of the trials and tribulations faced by the independent traveler. For Gary and Joan Runyan, much like Murphy's Law, if anything could possibly go wrong, it usually did!
