Comprehensive and Open: I can't imagine a better introduction to students of Organizations. The writing is clear, and assumes no background knowledge (I had none). Yet it is a deeply informative and thought-provoking book. A friend of mine in the M & O PhD program at Michigan (Davis' home department) says that you could pass preliminary exams if you memorized (*really* memorized) everything in the book. Unlike most textbooks, Scott and Davis actually locate the "perspectives" in current conversations.
