Oil Refining Text: Good book for student. Maybe weak on reforming but very good overall.
Great Petroleum Processing Book: This book is a long awaited addition to the petroleum processing literature. The chapters on lube base stock production, both conventional and synthetic, are excellent. The book also covers ULSD in great depth. I was glad to see several chapters on modeling, APC, and online optimization, which seldom (if ever) have been covered in previous books such as this. The first chapter is a well-written overview of oil refining, and the chapter on pollution control is excellent, covering regulations and giving examples of recent incidents. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in oil refining.
Fine Refining Book: One of the authors showed the book to me. I wish it had been out two years ago. It would have given me a better understanding of ULSD chemistry. Chapters by Mochida and by Song give unexpected detail on new catalysts such as STARS and Nebula. The best way to describe the difference between this book and others is its breadth. It covers a lot of things I didn't know much about. That's going to be a big help to me as a relatively new refinery engineer.
