Amazon.com Review: Marion Cunningham's brilliant revision of this classic home cooking reference addresses "good everyday cooking." Cunningham states that "every meal should be a small celebration," and she eases the preparation of those celebrations with clear, straightforward instructions and hints on how to make the most of every meal through beautiful presentation and balanced nutrition. The chapter on microwaved foods is clear and presents recipes that are simple and taste great. Cunningham's work especially shines in the chapters on baking, as might be expected from her work on The Fannie Farmer Baking Book and The Breakfast Book. Your piecrusts will always be crisp and flaky under her tutelage.
If Fanny says, you do it!: If you are new to cooking and want to learn, this is the book for you. I've had my edition of Fannny for FORTY years. I do not consider myself a cook. I'm a woman who prepares meals, dishes, or desserts and simply wants to know how to get it done and have people enjoy the result. Fanny is as reliable as it gets--simple, direct, and delicious.
Great Basics: Sent this to my sister who is always calling me for cooking info. It is a great book to give you basic knowledge and standard recipes. I hope my sister still has reason to call me now ;) Only drawback is a lack of pictures if you are one who needs that sort of info.
Fantastic Cookbook: I purchased the Fannie Farmer Cookbook as a gift for my sister. I've used an earlier addition for many years and it's an excellent cookbook for traditional and contemporary American cuisine. The recipes are easy to follow, the early chapters provide vital reference information regarding food and cooking techniques and imperial to metric conversion charts are included. If you're looking for a straight-forward, time-tested cookbook that never talks down to you, this is it.
Fannie Farmer Cookbook: I had ordered a new edition of the cookbook and received a used one. I had given it to my daughter in Maine and she kept it because I had ordered it from CT..
Fannie Farmer Cookbook: I bought 3 of these for Christmas presents for my nieces because it's the cookbook I have used for many years. I am a pastry chef and am always looking for great baking recipes...the peanut butter cookies and cranberry nut bread are great!
