Good introduction: I guess book makes a good introduction to the politics of the Singapore. Book will take you through a a brief history of the wealthy city-state of Singapore, the political system with emphasis on the dominant People's Action Party, economy as well as the foreing policy. However, the books does feel awkward at places. Book could have used more of editing, some themes are illogically on several places in the book, and some sub-chapters are not what their titles say to be. Order of the chapters is rather puzzling - e.g. the Chapter 4 is PAP: the structure and the operation of a dominant party, and the theme of sucession popping up at severel places in the book is discussed in Chapter 9! - meanwhile discussing, for instance, economy. I felt that authors might have tried to show more insight in the system, and analyse the PAP-Opposition more than they did. A use of the theory of non-democratic regimes, and other tools by political science are rather limited. However, book will make a good introduction to the politics of the Singapore for those that are not familiar with this intriguing example of successful illiberal democracy.
