Pretty good: I read this book to learn more about Anne Boleyn. I am aware that it is FICTION. After reading THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL, I thought this book was excellent. Unlike BOLEYN GIRL, Lady Raised High portrays Anne Boleyn as a gentle kind person who gets angry and have bad days instead of portraying her as a complete arrogant idiot. The only thing I regret is that it starts with Anne & Henry already together and doesn't tell alot of what she might have been thinking.
Good historical fiction: The story is told from a young maid who serves in Anne Boleyn's court before and during Anne's marriage to King Henry XIV and ends at Anne's beheading. The story is very interesting and moves along at a good pace. I like historical fiction, in fact it is probably my favorite genre, and this also has a bit or romance in it as well. I saw the "hook up" coming a mile away (I'm skilled at noticing these things by now I guess), but it was engaging and a good read. It seems like the author has two more books in a similar vain, and I'll probably end up checking those out as well.
Surprising and Fun Read: This was one of those books where I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be so much more than just an entertaining read. The one thing that I found so refreshing was the telling of Anne's tale through the eyes of a veritable country bumpkin who becomes quite close to Anne while avoiding the same fate. Francis, the main character, is faced with the dilemma of embroiling herself in the intrigues and politics of court life while still remaining loyal to her mistress. I quite liked the way that Francis' character doesn't play second fiddle to Anne in the story and had her own tale to tell. All in all, this was a fun read and not too heavy on the historical facts so it made for a light, fun and easy read. Definitely recommended.
Pretty good: This is not the best book that I have read about Anne Boleyn. However, I did enjoy the fact that it did not make her out to be a monster like other books do.
Loved This!: I enjoyed this book a lot, managed to come across it in the Bargain Area at Barnes and Noble. Now that I've read it, I have decided that I am NOT going to read Phillipa Gregory's (now made into a film) book. I have no desire to. This book pleased me, and I don't want to go off and read something else and be disappointed. I am happy with this :)
