Amazon.com Review: When spring has sprung the time is ripe for poetry. Teachers and kids (preschool through second grade) will love this collection of poems and activities all centered around the months of March, April, May, and June. Emily Dickinson, Frank Asch, Else Holmelund Minarik, Myra Cohn Livingston, Eve Merriam, and many other wonderful poets are featured, in verses that celebrate kites, flowers, butterflies, frogs, rain, and wind. Simple line drawings on every page serve as inspiration for students, who will use the book as a tool to bring the joy of poetry alive. Activity ideas at the beginning of the book can be used throughout, on any of the poems. Children can make an illustrated poetry poster, elect a poem of the week (to be discussed, read aloud, imitated in their own writing, etc.), dance and move to the words, learn about metaphor, sort rhyming words, change the shape of a poem, make math out of poetry, solve and make puzzle poems, or even create comic strips based on a poem. The object is to let poetry be a springboard for learning and creativity. With more than 60 lively verses, this collection is a fun introduction to the magic of words. Got those wintertime (or autumn) blues? Companion volumes Month-by-Month Poetry: December, January & February and Month-by-Month Poetry: September, October & November have the cure. --Emilie Coulter
