Not Enough Room! (Hello Math Reader, Level 2) (ISBN 0590399624)

Categories:

Two sisters, One room - A little math and a great story about sharing a room!:
Sisters Kris and Pat each have their very own square shaped rooms. Each had plenty of room for their books, toys, bed, chairs and stuffed animals. When their mother announces a new baby is on the way and the girls will have to share a room, younger sister Kris is not happy at all about having to share Pat's room. Pat shows Kris a drawing of Pat's room but it's split in half Pat's side has the window and Kris' side has the door and now each sister would have a rectangular room. And to divide the room in half they could put tape down the middle of the floor. OK said Kris, lets try... but their rectangular room seemed too small. Maybe a triangular room was the best shape for their room. So, Pat drew out another picture of their square room and it showed two triangle shaped rooms. We must move the room back the corners are too small and again they move their room all around. So they moved the room back to the beginning rectangle design. Kris is tired from all this moving and is resting on the bed when Pat says we have to move again. Pat says this time we'll both have a window and a door and they moved the room around again for the last time and put down the sticky tape. One day the baby pulled up the tape but we had forgotten all about the rectangular shape. And not long after Mom came with a catalog with bunk beds and said I've got a great surprise! Now the girls have bunk beds and their room is now a big square again and with no tape! At the end of the book there is a page on retelling the story, more halves of squares, exploring with triangles, Geometry words and making a crazy quilt!
