You've Seen it on TV, Now Enjoy the Book: And it really is like that. While I agree that this book doesn't bring thrilling new depths of character or plot into the original story, I don't think it needs to. It's a great translation of what was seen on TV and adds just enough to keep it interesting and fresh. The characterization and plot are spot on, keeping to what you've come to know and love, but adding enough additional detail to make this a good read. If you enjoyed watching "Voyager" on TV, then you'll like this book even now, many years later. "Endgame" comes with a four-chapter preview of "Homecoming" at the end. It's an excellent book which I had already read before reading this one. If you haven't read it yet, I think you will enjoy the preview and then you'll want to read the rest of the story.
Star Trek Voyager:Endgame: I thought this book was just as good as the television episode. It gave you a better perspective on Janeway and what was going through her head at the time of the Borg Queen's death. I would highly recommend this book to any Star Trek Fan!
Is it the End or the Beginning: First off, I will tell you that I am a big Star Trek Fan. I have seen every episode of TNG and DS9 and just about every episode of Voyager (with the exception of Endgame). I was out of the country when it came on and I have never caught it in syndication. Thus, Endgame was an important book for me. I purchased the Ebook from Amazon and read it in less than 1 day. The book starts out 26 years from Voyager's being catapulted by the Caretaker from the Alpha Quadrant. "Admiral" Janeway sends herself back in time (with a little help from her friends) to their seventh year in the Delta Quadrant. After much debate as to whether or not Captain Janeway (the same person 20 years earlier) should take the admiral's recommended course of action, the admiral and the captain compromise suiting both personalities. Of course, the end is fairly easy to predict, although the journey is definitely interesting. The detail was great. The explanation of the interpersonal relationships was very good. There should have been more borg interaction. The lack of borg participation makes it very unbelievable that it was that easy to defeat them in battle. I guess what I am saying is -- more action less drama would have been nice. The ebook comes with a three (3) chapter preview of Homecoming. A nice bonus and ready to download the next book. My only gripe with Endgame (and Star Trek in general) is time travel in the star trek universe is becoming a bit overused. It's a little too convenient - and becomes an all too easy way of overcoming problems. Enjoy!
A good finale.......: I found this a great book. It had a ceative idea, and it was transferred from the TV episode to the book very well. I also like how it shows that there is more to the story. (In the next book, homecoming)But I found the relationship between Seven of Nine and Chakotay dissappointing, since throughout the series, he's seemed to have chemestrey with Janeway. But that didn't nearly ruin the book. It's a great finale that any Star Trek: Voyager fan should read!
Star Trek Voyager - Endgame - A well written novelization: Over the years, Diane Carey has been chosen for several episode novelizations and done and excellent job with each one of them. Her novelization of "Endgame" is no exception to this. She deftly handles all of the scenes with perfection while adding depth and emotions to each scene that cannot be seen on screen while at the same time, extrapolating quite well on what we did not see in the episode. The Premise: USS Voyager and her crew, lost in the Delta Quadrant for seven years are still some 30,000 light years from home. Twenty six years in her future is Admiral Janeway and those of her crew who made it through the epic journey home to Earth. Harboring a good deal of regret over the loss of some of her crew whether mentally or physically, Admiral Janeway has been plotting a way to get back to Voyager in the seventh year of their journey and considerably shorten the journey home. All she has to do is get past the Borg Queen... Overall, for fans of Star Trek and in particular, the novels, this is a very well written novelization of Star Trek Voyager's epic final episode. I highly recommend it to all readers. {ssintrepid}
