Becoming Real:
Loved the book, read it twice within two weeks and then passed it on as I like to do with all books that lift me up. It's the real deal:) ()()

Bunny Blessings:
A great gift to give to a depressed friend. Okay, so if you're a little down you could purchase it for yourself. This is a very cute and inspiring book and I've never read The Velveteen Rabbit, yet I still got it's point. This is like one of those beautiful subtle tales with a huge message , but it's presented in a gentle way. So if your feeling a little disconnected from yourself or you have a good friend who you want to cheer up and cuddle. I recommend this book. I closed the book smiling.

An Inspirational Must-Have:
My name is Elizabeth Claydon and I am writing this review under my father's name, because I do not have an Amazon account myself. I would like to respond to the "Really trite" comment posted about this amazing book. I was actually responsible for bringing Toni Raiten-D'Antonio down to Vanderbilt University to give a seminar lecture about being "Real" to tie in with the Image organization's focus on body image. I had read the Velveteen Principles two years before and was so inspired by its message that I wrote my own comments in the margin and shared the book with my mother. I have struggled with an eating disorder for 5 years and this book enabled me to finally communicate some of my fears and issues with my mother that I had not been able to do in any other way. My mother was truly moved by the book as well and added her own comments, returning the book to me on my birthday the following spring. We have now performed this same ritual for Toni's second book and I find the tradition truly meaningful. I took a chance when I asked Toni to speak at my university; I thought she would be too busy like many authors. But true to the character of her book, she visited and gave an inspiring lecture full of hope and meaning. I wish the lady who posted the aforementioned response had attended the lecture; perhaps she might have understood Toni's message better. However, I think that the book speaks for itself. I do not consider it trite or repetitive. It takes the most poignant pieces from a wonderful children's classic and elaborates them, showing how these messages are applicable to all ages. This book allows young and old connect to a story that most people consider only a children's book. Madeleine L'Engle said: "If the book is too difficult for grownups, then you write it for children." Toni Raiten-D'Antonio's book allowed grownups to revisit an amazing children's story and re-discover the meaning behind it. Unlike many self-help authors, Toni also lives by her Principles. I have never met a more sincere, down-to-earth woman who was so confident in herself. She is truly an inspiration and her book is a worthwhile addition to any household.

Real-ly trite:
I first saw something about the Velveteen Principles on a flyer at Vanderbilt University. I looked up the book on Amazon and ordered it rather than attending a seminar. I'm way above college age, but am still interested in human behavior. First of the all the word "real" is italicized throughout the book and it becomes annoying after the first page. Secondly, it is one of the most trite and shallow, repetitious books that I have ever read. The author is simplistic to a fault and seems to struggle to fill the pages of even this small book. The Velveteen Rabbit is a wonderful children's classic and a thoughtful person would get much more enlightenment from a rereading of this book than from The Velveteen Principles. Save your money.
