Limited appeal for many owners in the USA; outdated.: I was interested in the authors' history of the breed, but the rest of the book was of no use to me at all. I'm not planning to take my puppy out with ferrets to hunt rabbits and badgers, so I don't need a chapter on getting him "broken" to ferrets. I don't plan to hunt the dog at all, so the lengthy chapters on teaching him to hunt were interesting only in the abstract. A chapter on disease focused largely on the diseases for which puppies are routinely vaccinated here (distemper, leptospirosis, et al) so the pages and pages of their grisly symptoms and unsuccessful treatment were useless. The treatments for mange and ear infections seemed primitive. The book was written 20 years ago in England and has been reprinted (but never updated) several times since. I got my puppy in Ireland, and found the veterinary care far more modern that this book would suggest. Surely, in England it would be much the same. This book is a curiosity with some interesting bits, but it isn't the first book that I would suggest you buy.
The Greatest JRT book I have read.: The history of the Jack is put here better than it has been put in any other book. This book will upset allot of JRT people because it tells the truth not what a few wants the world to only believe. No matter what kind of Jack you have they are all correct. They can be the tall square type known as Parson, or they can be the short-legged type, which is the longer in body than their legs are tall, know as Jack Russell Terriers or English or Australian. And yes folks they can even be solid color ones. They can and are all of these types because the Jack Russell Terrier has all kinds of different breeds breed into it. This is what makes them so special to the ones who love them!!!!!
Excellent and honest book on one of the most popular dogs.: Even though the authors "Queens English" is hard to follow sometimes, the content of this book is excellent. Anyone who wants to work their terrier on game would find this book very usefull. The honest and factuall information presented will upset many JRT owners, but the truth hurts sometimes>>>>>
It says it all about my Jack Russell: Everything was great. I enjoyed reading it!!!!!!! Than
Very Informative About the JRT!: I think it's a wonderful book...all the information you need to know
