Outdated employment agency stuff: The quote on the cover of this ten-year-old book from Robert Snelling of Snelling and Snelling Employment agency says a lot. For that is who this shallow book is suitable for...old style unsophisticated office support agencies. I can't believe people pay 50 bucks for this $3.95 paperback of material taken from old Snelling manuals! For modern up-to-date material suitable for professional level executive search and recruiting firms, see the 2008 edition of leading trainer Steven Finkel's terrific book " Breakthrough! Exploding the Production of Experienced Recruiters". This is a serious 350+ page hardbound book which delivers not only genuinely effective material, but high value as well.If Mr. Radin ever "worked a desk", it was a long time ago. Steven Finkel is acclaimed as the best in the business by a mile..and it comes through in his fine book. Unlike this one..
The Recruiter's Almanac: Good product but less creative than I originally believed it to be. Secondly, I fell it is a $10-$15 book not a $55 book.
I couldn't agree more..: I coudn't agree more with the obviously experienced reviewer who called this scanty $2.95 paperback "outdated employment agency stuff". If Lou Scott (claimed "editor", but in reality just lending his name) were alive today,he'd say the same thing. This book is so short, general and basic as to be near worthless. I must disagree with the above-mentioned reviewer in one respect. The recruiting industry's leading trainer, Steven Finkel, does indeed have a terrific 380-page hardbound book entitled "Breakthrough!" Long known (rightly) as "the industry bible", the revised and updated 2008 edition is the one to get. However, I think newer recruiters would be better off with the far more foundational book "Search and Placement! A Handbook for Success" by Larry Nobles before progressing to the much more sophisticated book "Breakthrough!" Either way, you'll get well-written modern up-to-date effective techniques and information by highly qualified top trainers that will work for you in today's market. Which is just what you won't get with this little book.
First step training tool!: The Recruiter's Almanac is a great first step for anyone new to the recruiting industry. The scripts Bill has included in this book are vanilla but plentiful making them perfect for the new recruiter to expand, customize and infuse with their own flavor. This book will help get the newbie out from behind the monitor and on the telephone - where the real money is made!
Must Have for Newer Recruiters: If you are a newer recruiter, I would highly reccomend you buy this book. I read it from cover to cover three times, and have modified several of the scripts to my own style and have them pinned up at my desk. They are a great reference for overcoming objections, and I use them daily.
