Inspirational, Complete, and Hits the Spot!: I read a lot of the reviews before I purchase books. That's one of the reasons why I shop on Amazon rather than going to the bookstore. What makes me sad is that you have people like Wayne Dyer who dedicate their lives to trying to help others and you have negative reviewers who just want to squash those efforts. I don't think I could help people because people don't appreciate your efforts. They just want to kick you and criticize you. For the most part, people don't deserve to be helped to begin with. I know, it sounds hard but it's what I believe now. I liked this book. I've read all of Dyer's books and this one (along with the 10 Secrets to Success) is one of my favorites. In the past I've had trouble reading and/or digesting his material because it tends to be very heavy. But this book was lighter, easy to read, and really was inspiring. The only thing I didn't like which seems uncharacteristic of Dyer was that he kept mentioning all of his do-gooder deeds such as buying an employee a van, buying berries at a market for a stranger, giving someone a ride, etc. I think he was trying to illustrate unconditional giving but the way it was written made it seem like he was looking for a pat on the back. That type of writing from Dyer is rare and unusual for me to read. As they say, you lose your blessings when you tell the world of the good deeds you do for others. Otherwise, it's a very good read, incredibly inspirational, and if you're looking for a good book to put you back on the 'path' then this is the one you need. If you feel lost or don't know what you're doing with your life, read this book. Peace...
Good Content But Not Very Inspired: As an avid reader of personal growth and holistic health books for over 30 years, I thought it was time to finally read one of Wayne Dyer's books. Somehow his titles had not attracted my attention enough in the past to persuade me to buy one. I loved the title of this book and knowing what a force he has become in the field of personal development, I was ready for something great. I agree in theory with many of the concepts presented in this book. Yet I found contradictions that didn't make sense. For example, in his 12-step program to simplicity in Chapter 8, step 9 says "Do everything you can to eschew debt" and step 10 says to "Forget about the Cash Value". Not only do these seem contradictory, but they really don't work for most people unless they are largely financially independent. At the end of each chapter he has a section called "Some Suggestions for Putting the Ideas in this Chapter to Work for You". I found his suggestions to be rather bland and theoretical, without much more practical application than the chapters he applied them to. I really wanted to love this book but to be honest, I would have to say it is rather generic. He quotes so many others throughout the book, and some of the quotes are great, but he lacks inspiring quotes of his own (no pun intended). I try to finish any book I start but found myself eager to get through with this one. It just didn't have that special something that would make it unique and great. It seemed mostly to be a recital of the author's lifestyle, preferences, good deeds and celebrity connections. In addition, I found the tone of writing to be a bit condescending. This book is good but not special. The parts I enjoyed most were the numerous quotes from other authors or thinkers, not the words of the author himself. Much more inspiring, I believe, are Conversations With God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 2), Happier Than God: Turn Ordinary Life into an Extraordinary Experience or The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment. Moonstone Star White is the author of High Way from Hell: Using Emotion to Fan the Fire of Enlightenment.
Another Spiritual Gem from Dyer!: Wayne Dryer keeps rolling the books and the ideas out there and it seems that life itself must inspire him. His book "Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling" is another book that is truly a gift from his own well of creative writing. He takes the reader on a gentle and loving inner journey of discovery. This is one of his better efforts. It is simple and does not try to over-reach with too much. There is lots of wisdom in his words and he does a wonderful job of getting the message across without preaching or being boring. He makes his book both entertaining and spiritually awakening. I gave this book Five Stars and felt it truly was one of his best books.
Wayne Dyer Inspires: This book is fantastic. It is a philosophy of how to live life to the fullest potential in-Spirit. I highly recommend it.
