This is one book that will not sit on your shelf collecting dust once you have graduated and will also function as a reference book.'4th year medical student, Barts and the London Chronicle, Spring 2003 "an excellent job of making medical statistics as relevant and painless as it possibly could be...if statistics give you headaches buy it" GKT Gazette "It is now a valuable companion to my statistics course" International Journal of Epidemiology "As one who generally has not got a clue whenit comes to statistics, this is a book I would definitely recommend" Surgo: Glasgow University Medical Journal "This book...was actually enjoyable to read" Cambridge Medicine "Nothing is too obscure, there are lots of worked examples, and clear diagrams. Go Buy!"Sphincter - Liverpool Medical Students Society Journal
Very nice concise reference: This is one of my favorite statistical references and I always have it close at hand. Many times I am just looking for a brief and concise overview of a statistical topic that I don't know that well and I use this text as one of my starting points, or I may use it as a quick refresher. It's often a good starting point and a nice bridge to statistical texts, or software statistical manuals, that provide more detail. I would recommend this text to anyone interested in statistics in healthcare / pharma.
brief but useful: This is a decent review of medical stats and is geared towards those who want a general understanding of what tests to use in what situations. If that's what you want than this is a decent one to check out. If you are looking for mathematical proofs and complete explainations or statistical theories than this is the wrong book to get since it has none of that. Sometimes it is a little too concise and gets confusing (I knew very little about medical stats when I first got this and had to use other sources on a few subjects). There are good examples in each chapter (which are usually about 2 pages each) that help explain the concepts as well.
Medical statistics disappointment: I purchased this book simply based on its title. However, the title is very misleading. I am a RT(R)(M)(ARRT), going back to school. I have been doing research on the disparities of healthcare and its accessibility. I expected this book to contain actual medical statistics and various case studies, however, nothing regarding healthcare or medicine is even mentioned in the book. I believe this book was written with the purpose to explain the purpose and how to read statistical jargon regardless of purpose or field of study. I was disappointed and will return this STAT!
Accessible, clear, simple, but not TOO simple = NICE!: This is an excellent introductory text for anyone wishing to learn the principles of medical statistics through self-study.
