Sleeping with Fear (ISBN 1423309391)

Enjoyable brain candy with a paranormal flavour!:
I'm not generally a big fan of the paranormal but this one started off with a great creepy bang, I'll admit! FBI Agent Riley Crane, a clairvoyant member of Noah Bishop's Special Crimes Unit (SCU) has been asked to look into some possible occult activity on a quiet undercover ex officio basis. When she wakes up in the middle of the day covered in blood, with an intense headache, no recollection of the past three weeks' activity or her ongoing investigation, not to mention a total inability to tap into her normally active psychic senses, she's understandably concerned and completely mystified. The SCU being severely strapped for manpower and tied up in other investigations elsewhere, Noah Bishop has given Crane his trust and a free hand to carefully deal with the ambiguities of her situation, to try to re-crystallize her memories and to press the investigation forward. As Crane puzzles her way through satanism, black masses, dark magic, human sacrifice, evil energy, continuing memory blackouts and a torrid romantic liaison with someone who she can't even remember meeting let alone making love to, "Sleeping With Fear" is perhaps a little over the top even by Hooper's standards. But, that said, when I gave into the story and allowed myself to totally dispense with any credibility issues, I'll confess I enjoyed the story. For a few easygoing hours, I was transported to a land of horror brain candy that was quite entertaining. Recommended. Paul Weiss

eh:
while I have read almost all of the bishop series i have recently felt that they started to drag. why is it in every book the main character with these special abilities either cant use the abilities bc they mysteriously disappear or the powers are so vague they arent helpful. please once i would like one of the characters to actually live up to the abilities that they claim are so strong.

Sleeping With Fear:
Excellent book, suspenseful, a definite page turner. This is one of a series of "Fear" books by Kay Hooper. She has become one of my favorite authors as each book I read delivers intrigue, the paranormal, along with a bit of romance. She portrays characters who come to life for the reader. Received in perfect condition, and quick and easy transaction.

SLEEPING WITH FEAR:
Sleeping with Fear The fact that Kay Hooper is a best-selling author is proof that America has stopped reading. Her books are notoriously dull, long-winded and the writing juvenile at best. She uses the same phrases over and over and over..... This book was the worst one I've read of hers, although all of her books are poorly written. The dialoge between her characters is downright embarrassing - reminds me of things I wrote in grammar school. She has an interesting-enough premise in this book, but takes entirely too long to sort out the details. In this particular book, the character has to eat a lot of power bars for energy. I believe Kay Hooper used the word "power bar" about a million times, if not more. The repetitive writing and just plain dull storyline make this a book to definitely skip.

Audiobook is relentlessly perky!:
Wow do I agree with the reviewers that found this book boring! The endless power bars, all she does is talk, talk, talk. Definitely the worst of the series. I find it ridiculous that the FBI would allow one of their agents to be left in this situation with no backup. They could send a non paranormal FBI agent. I have been listening to it, and the reader is completely perky all the time, no matter what she is saying it sounds like she is absolutely delighted, and her voice for Ashe is like a gravelly old drunk, not very sexy!! The previous novels were read by Dick Hill, so this is a real come down!
