The Cover Is The Best Part Of This Book: I love the cover of this book, so it is with extreme difficulty that I give it such a low rating. The cover is awesome, but the book is a disappoinment. I expected to find information regarding color combinations that work and perhaps those that don't. Most of the text in this book appears to be devoted to discussions of particular plants/cultivars that exhibit various color, i.e., best black cultivars, best blues, etc. Such information will be quickly dated as newer cultivars replace those in use today. Most of all, I was dissapointed that each color was addressed seperately with little or no attention given to combinations. The book does contain a number of excellent color photos as well as the occasional bit of useful information; unfortunately, the latter is all but lost amidst a plethera of information regarding specific cultivars for a given color - information you could easily find in a garden catalog.
Colorful inspiration: This is a book of inspiring photos and plant combinations that I have come back to again and again. I have many books on Color in the garden and this is one of my newest and most enjoyable. It is not a comprehensive book of varietals and planting schemes but rather a book of beautiful photographs that will inspire you in planting your own garden. The photographs are of very high quality and this is a book that you can pick up anytime you need some new planting ideas. I couldn't disagree more with the previous reviewer. If you like color and color combinations I can't imagine that you will not enjoy this book!
