Working Together Effectively: I found this book to be extremely helpful during my first few months at a new job. I'm not the type of person to check my horoscope every day and live by what it says, and the same goes for this book. I do however feel that each sign has specific characteristics that surface in the work place especially during intense situations and projects where it may be helpful to know the type of person you are dealing with. By modifying my actions based on what Mr. Ford suggests in dealing with a certain sign has proven to effectively influence the outcome of a desired situation. I will however say that by no means should this book be used in hiring/firing individuals due to the fact that each person has specific qualities that may not be related to a sign. If you are having difficulties working with a coworker, you may benefit from reading what Mr. Ford suggests are effective ways in dealing with that person. This book reminds me of the scores achieved by taking the Meyers Briggs test since a lot of the work habits formed are directly related to the sign you are. It is nice to finally have a book that talks about people you work with and spend a majority of the day with versus another book about astrology in love and relationships.
Seriously?: The title seems to say it best "An Astrological Expose of Everyone in the Office" and it should be taken with a grain of salt. This is not the ultimate book in deciding someone's working capabilities, though it tries to make itself out to be. And it is not the essential Evil HR Directors hiring handbook, though it seems to be pointing in that direction. It is an overall look at the business side of each of the signs of the Zodiac. It is interesting to see how Mr. Ford associates the business aspects with each of the Signs. Being a Capricorn who is married to and in business with a Scorpio, I was interested in seeing how Mr. Ford placed this kind of relationship. According to him, we should fail somewhere along the line. Well, only time will tell... 9-) I would suggest that if you are curious about the business capabilities of your staff, you should look at their annual reviews and the references they provided you when they submitted their resumes. This book, while interesting to read, seems to be placing itself as a substitute for making personal judgements of a person based on experiences. Beware of the interview where you find this book on the HR Director's desk.
