Great practical gardening book: The author is the garden editor for the Boston Globe. For years she has written her knowledgeable column each week with practical tips for the gardener. Now she has assembled all those great ideas and tips into one beautifully illustrated gardening book. It is a great reference book or a great how to for all New England gardeners.
New England gardeners rejoice: This is a great book for New England gardeners. I'm a keen but by no means expert MA gardener, and this was the perfect book to guide me through the seasons. I love the way it's set out, and I love the author's serious but casual philosophy of gardening (eg try it once and if it doesn't grow dig it out).
Best gardening book for an area that has many microclimates: Carol Stocker has written a beautiful, succinct book for both inveterate gardeners and people who love flowers and shrubs and want to know more about their properties and characteristics. A book to have on your coffee table to look at always and to have handy as a guide to your gardening year round. Easy to use everyday book for buying for your garden, organizing the way you plant and place flowers and evergreens and how to keep them healthy and vital all year round.
indispensable: Excellent weekly guide to gardening in New England but also whimsical and lovely reporting about local gardens and gardeners.
