One of the best books of its kind out there,: I was surprised at how helpful this book turned out to be. Lots of these craft books are filled with crafts that are either too difficult or uninspired. This book however had several creative and beautiful favors that I felt compelled to make. If you're in need of an interesting favor idea I think this book will probably help to jumpstart your imagination. The directions are simple. The supply lists are detailed. The favors are unique and charming.
Excellent Resource!: I have always considered myself hopelessly inept when it comes to doing anything crafty. Ms. Maloney's book has changed all that! Charming projects, inviting photos and clearly written instructions allow me to complete these favors with confidence and ease. My local library thought the book was so great that they have put it in their collection too!
Not the best favor book: Albeit, the book layout and format is easy to understand, however, the type of favors in this book are for first time crafters, who need to know the basics. There is a materials list and detailed instructions, however, I did not find much inspiration nor "flair" from many the favors in this book. Now if you really looking for unique favors, try Favors (leisure Arts #3390) paperback.
Interesting Favor Book: I found this book to have several interesting, easy to make projects. The favor ideas were grouped by section to focus on the type of event. The book has a good list of sources for obtaining the supplies used on each project. It also includes patterns for the handmade boxes, pouches, and cones.
For beginners but rather fun.: Many of these crafts are definitely for beginners. There's nothing wrong with that just know it going into it. A recommendation for dusting powder is to wrap a picture of a cherub that you've printed from your computer around the bottle of baby powder. Then tie a grosgrain ribbon around the bottle. It's a cute idea. Another is to take a glass votive candle holder and wrap some chenille trim around it and hot glue a bottle cap embellishment onto it and add a baby blue votive to the holder. It's OK. Another idea is to glue christian crosses you've printed from your computer onto river rocks. It's suppose to be given at the celebration of a christening. It looks rather cheap. So all in all the book delivers on what it says. I don't know that I would say these are party favors with "flair." I don't think there's much flair but it's an acceptable book for beginners.
