I've tried unsuccessfully to learn Pro Tools for the past few years. Clicking around an trying to learn it myself was mind boggling, and I purchased books only to return them later because the information was too general, and the visual examples were outdated by the time the book hit the shelves. This DVD is truly informative, and you learn along with Joe narrating the lessons from his own Mac. An extra DVD holds the lessons so you can follow along with him. He explains everything clearly and concisely, and if you have a question, you can jump back in the movies. The Lynda.com DVD navigation is great. You can jump chapters from the table of contents with ease. I recommend watching all the movies, even if you think you know the material. He has cool shortcuts you don't want to miss. I had a little experience with ProTools beforehand, but I forced myself to watch every clip, even what I thought was easy. I learned that I was doing things alot harder than necessary and learned some shortcuts that sped up my workflow.) I'm a musician and I wanted to learn about plugins, tracking, and compositing tracks. It got me up to speed within a week or so. I also found fascinating the lessons on voice work, micing, etc, as well as midi instruments. This is a thrill if you're a musician that once had to raise money to record a disc. Pro Tools is one of those software tools that is easy to get lost in and the DVD medium is perfect for visual learning. Well worth the money. If you are a musician, do any kind of voice over, work for NPR, or are curious about recording and want to learn Pro Tools, this DVD has the answers you need. One thing, it covers ProTools 7.3. Some slight differences between 7.3 and 7.1, so expect the Preferences Panes do not totally match. Otherwise, if you have version 7 you're ready to go.
