Frost Bite: everyday food fresh from the freezer (ISBN 1741104343)

Best OAMC and Freezer Cooking Cookbook I've Seen!!:
Just got this yesterday, and it is by far the best cookbook for frozen meals that I've seen. What I love about it is that unlike all the other ones in this category that I've looked at, the recipes here all generally call for whole natural foods, rather than, e.g., prepared and processed ingredients like canned cream-of-whatever soups or Velveeta cheese (cf. Don't Panic - Dinner's in the Freezer, etc.). The recipes look fantastic too, and some are quite sophisticated (like there is one for a wonderful-sounding risotto!) Also, it has more fish/seafood/vegetarian recipes than other books I've come across, and less ground beef (which I have trouble trusting because it's the most vulnerable from a food safety standpoint). And for the most part the recipes here seem very nutritious, not overloaded on greasy and salty ingredients like many other OAMC/freezer recipes. Also terrific is the variety of recipes. It doesn't just have dinner entrees but there are chapters on appetizers (great for entertaining), breakfast/brunch, lunch, afternoon tea (some nice dessert and baked goods recipes), dinner and desserts. The desserts look fantastic too! This is not actually a OAMC book, because it doesn't have shopping lists or mass bulk cooking plans, but could easily be used for that purpose. This book has actually gotten me really excited about making and freezing some meals for after my baby arrives! This book is true find if you are into good cooking but still need to make and freeze some meals for later use.

metric measurements, really disappointed...returning:
What the description of Frost Bite doesn't exactly tell you is that it's published in Australia, which ordinally wouldn't mean anything to me, except that the ingredient measurements are in grams, ML, etc. Most Americans are not used to reading or dealing in g, kg, or ml when referring to measurements. And it wouldn't be so bad because in parentheses there are the american equivalents but the recipes are not consistent. One recipe will have the australian measurements listed first and the american equivalents in parenthesis and then the next recipe will have it vice-versa. It's a very confusing cookbook to read because of the inconsistencies. A lot of the words are spelled in queen's english I guess, yoghurt, "s" instead of "z", savoury instead of savory, uses words like "plain" flour when referring to all-purpose flour, capsicum instead of bell peppers, among other oddities. Also, words were often forgotten to be spelled out in the recipe titles, for example "choc" was still abbreviated when the book when to press and the typesetter forgot to spell it out to chocolate. So it still needs some polishing, perhaps that will be fixed in the reprint. Now for the meat of the cookbook, it's a very well laid out with nice pictures, to advertise itself as a freezer cookbook is not really accurate as all the recipes are just for 4 people and they all call for cooking the food first and then freezing it which always makes for a mushy outcome if you ask me. Many of the instructions call for wrapping in cling wrap and freezing, which doesn't seem like a very reliable method to hold foods freshness for very long. Then some of the recipes are simply to make brownies and then freeze. Well I don't really need another cookbook to tell me that's "freezer" cooking. And there are A LOT of lamb recipes, a lot. I guess that's the down under way but lamb is not a popular dish for our family. And then some of the recipes call for foods I've never heard of...tzatziki, caster sugar, sultanas, coulibiac, cornflour, shortcrust pastry, tahini, etc etc and even if I knew what they were where would I buy this stuff? It's a 2 hour drive to the nearest Whole Foods and how much money? The bottom line I will be returning this cookbook to Amazon, it's the first one that I've ever returned. I rated it a 2 because it is a nice cookbook with nice pictures, excellent food photographer. However, it would be a 1 because there isn't a single recipe I would actually make. Please note that after I wrote my review on the 2nd of March suddenly on March 4th, 3 other people who have never written a review for Amazon before are writing a 5 star review for this cookbook. Isn't that funny?

5 star kitchen inspiration:
At last a cookbook that inspires good home cooked food for even the businest family!! Living in Singapore I find this book a true gem. Great recipes, that although omit complicated ingredients and methods, certainly do not lack taste. Easy to reproduce, even the busiest "cook" will find this book full of inspirational food the whole family will love. I have found the freezing tips a fantastic addition, as I am now in the habbit of preparing twice the amount and freezing half for a later date when I am short of time or energy. I also just got my hands on the next Frost Bite, a book full of great ideas to feed the kids, while also giving mum and dad something to enjoy. And there is a fantastic party section, so your next kids birthday party can be prepared weeks in advance to prevent that "party day migraine" that I have had so many times before. Both books are highly recommended for anyone who wants to make life easy AND have great food.

"Frost Bite" - What a Cool Book!!:
My wife and I have this book and we love it. We've seen it for sale in heaps of shops recently. The recipes are fresh, tasty and healthy and really easy to prepare. Perfect for any family or individual. My favourite recipes from this book are the beautiful Smoked Trout dip (often make it for dinner and eat it on nice bread with a salad), the chocolate chip cookies, the risotto balls, the beef empanadas and the potato rosti with smoked salmon. I always encourage my wife to practice her wonderful cooking and she loves this book too!! I would most definitely buy it again - it would be a bargain at double the price.

Bad measurements, odd ingredients:
I wouldn't have bought this if I had know it was published in Australia. Nothing against Australia but their measurements and ingredients are enough to mess me up.
