A great "how-to" and a fun read:
I love this little book. It's a great "how-to" overview that's great for people starting out, and an interesting addition for people who have been raw feeding for a while. The author touches on the major issues with feeding a raw diet and then gives a simple breakdown of the diet. The author - in plain language - discusses meats, veggies, bones, supplements, food prep, and "troubleshooting." This book is not very in-depth, but it's not full of "fluff" either. There aren't a bunch of anecdotes/testimonials filling the pages. The book delves straight into the basics of how to feed raw and how to spend a minimal amount of time preparing food. I read the reviews of this book before buying it, and I don't see a basis for the few reviews that were critical. It does follow the Billinghurst-style raw diet, but it's not unrealistically rigid. The author is clear that she is not a vet or a nutritionist. This is a how-to book, and it does a great job of covering the basics of the diet in layman's terms. I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering a raw diet who is feeling overwhelmed, as well as to anyone who hasn't gotten the kinks out of feeding raw yet.

Relaxed and funny, this book is a great guide for dog owners new to raw feeding.

Good information, quick to read, but too gory. It put images in my mind that my dog would have guts and blood splattered all over. Just grossed me out and almost turned me off of trying a RAW dog food diet for my pup. I wish I could recommend another book, because I think it's great when reviewers do that, but I haven't found one yet that is just plain, simple, easy, and not so gross. I do like "Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" by Wendy Volhard and Kerry Brown, but even that one is a little over the top for me (I don't take care of myself that well!).

Finally a digestable explaination of Raw Food diet!:
All the reviews regarding how much more straight forward this book is compared to others on the subject are "right on"! I have 3 other books on the subject that have been sitting on my table for 2 years that I can't seem to get past the first couple chapters in for some reason. They just give too much information and make you think it is SO complicated you might actually fail if you don't become a complete expert. I think I might actually have a chance of making the transition to raw food now for my dogs now after reading this book! It was great. It doesn't seem so difficult now. I read the detailed critisism by the one reader and can only think that perhaps they did not really read the entire book or read it very carefully. The author makes a point SEVERAL times throughout the book that VARIETY of meats and vegtables is the key and she is a big proponent of balance. I don't know how they got the impression that she only feeds chicken or is suggesting that in any way that the reader do that. She simply, at one point, admits that her percentage of chicken feeding is a little higher proportionally to the other meats due to cost and availability---which in reality is what is going to happen when anyone logical does this method. Who really thinks you are going to be buying steaks, lamb, venison and duck as much as chicken for your dogs? She encourages the use of ALL these meats (and different dairy and vegtables and some grains) but breaks it down so you can get the best bang for your budget while still providing your dogs with a variety of choices and nutrients. This book was recommended to me by our German Shepherd breeders who have 3 different dogs- 4 kids under the age of 9, run a farm and have jobs. I thought - it must not be as hard as these other books are making it out to be if they are able to do it---and this book defiantely lives up to that "ease of implementation" reputation.

A helpful book:
Easy enjoyable read, very logical, makes sense and contains lots of practical advice. Great for those who are inexperienced with a raw food diet. Definitely worth checking out.
