TIGER I ON THE EASTERN FRONT (ISBN 2352500303)

Categories:

More for Modelers - unique photo's however.:
This book and its companion (Tiger 1 on the Western Front), are excellent compilations of photographs of the dreaded Tiger 1 tank (PzVI). That being said, the titles should read "A modelers guide to the Tiger 1 on the..." Overall, I enjoyed these books because you could read them in about 1 hour, and then spend the time pouring over the photos with a magnifying glass. There are some fantastic shots of the Tigers in action. Unfortunately, there is not much in the way of military information, armament details, AAR's or other. Excellent book, but I'd have been much happier if it had been about (price) cheaper. For the true Tiger die hard, skip these and put your money towards "Tigers in Action"

Great book for modelling.:
This is a great book for modelling. Good photos, some color drawings for camo patterns. Not a book for those looking for in depth discussion on the tank itself.

Nice, but full of mistakes:
Jean Restayn is a well known color artist but has not gone deeply enough into the unit histories. Unfortunately some of the color prints are simply wrong with turret numbers never used. Also the unit and the photo coverage is poor. Not comparable to the reference books "Tigers in Combat". Useless for the historian, nice for the modeller.

Tiger I on the Eastern Front:
excellent photographic chronology. on the good side. on the bad? not detailed enough the author picked a very broad subject and whittled it down to fit in a smaller book! unfortunately we werent able to see any of a stated units slow disintegration through atrition. this book should have been alot bigger! but! overall for its size was a very good book!

Great value for the money!:
No, it does not have the amount of detail or photos as Tigers in Combat but then again it doesn't have the price tag either (hardback). I still have found it a very valuable resource for modelling this legendary vehicle if you cannot afford the more expensive titles covering the Tiger then this is the book for you.
