Amazon.com Product Description:
The Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet G85 All-in-One can save you time, space, and money in your home or office. It combines a printer, scanner, fax, and copier into one reliable, networkable product. Designed with built-in multitasking technology supported by separate paper paths, the OfficeJet G85 allows printing while you are scanning images or sending faxes. You can also make copies while sending print jobs or scan while copying documents. Additionally, the copier can work as a stand-alone unit to produce quality copies in color and black ink with 600 x 600 dpi at copy speeds up to 12 copies per minute in black and 9 cpm in color with automatic collation. Efficient multiple copies can be selected from 1 to 99 copies. The reduction and enlargement options range from 25 to 400 percent. All the best qualities of the G85's copier functions translate to the scanning and printing features as well. The flatbed scanner features resolution of 600 x 3,600 dpi (up to 9,600 dpi enhanced) with 26-bit color and 8-bit gray scale (256 levels of gray for improved contrast) and includes optical character recognition (OCR) for easy text editing and revisions. The printer produces pages with 600 dpi resolution in black and 2,400 x 1,200 in color, in print speeds of up to 12 ppm in black and 10 ppm in color. The unit holds 150 sheets in the input tray, handling plain paper, ink-jet papers, labels and transparencies, glossy and matte photo paper, iron-on transfers, and more. The 14.4 Kbps fax modem receives messages at up to 10 ppm, sending at 6 seconds per page. The fax feature holds up to 125 speed dials and 125 pages in memory, and the automatic document feeder with 30-page capacity further frees you for other projects. Plus, you can fax directly from your PC. E-mail images can be sent directly with one-touch operation. USB and parallel port connections, color ink cartridges, CD-ROM installation software, a user guide, and bidirectional IEEE 1284 cable are included. The one-year limited warranty covers parts and labor. --Barbara Price

An Office Workhorse:
I've had this All-in-one for over 3 years and it's worked flawlessly, even though I bought it as a factory rebuild. I can't remember any problems other than the AC transformer giving out. The part is easily replaceable. I absolutely love this machine. I don't know where I'd be without it.

HP is always a crapshoot:
1. The fax feeder SUCKS. I need to stand there and make sure every sheet feeds and doesn't jam. 2. The printer works fine except when you make multiple prints or copies (i.e. more than 1) because the first sheet doesn't get dropped efficiently and actually gets caught in the mechanism as the next sheet is dropped. HORRIBLE. You end up having text at the top of the first sheet that should be on the second etc. Who has the time to babysit their fax/printer/coper??? It finally died its final death and I'm glad. Sadly, I will probably buy HP again because of price of a new one ($80) and convenience. There's no way anyone would fix the G85 for $80, at least not in the Bay Area. I will not, however, ever buy an "all-in-one" again. That term is just begging for breakdowns. Specialized hardware is best. The one I am buying is intended to serve as an outgoing fax only and the occasional colour printer.

Rated for 5000 pages a month.:
This thing is a commercial grade unit. Made to last forever. 4 years and not a problem yet. Most units are made to run up to 3000 pages a month but it has taken this long to run 17700 pages in the one I have and just clean the rollers with isopropanol once a year. Solid unit.

MOREL:
Great multifunction for home use. If you can find a used one please buy it. The scanner is very slow at 1200dpi, but the final results very good.

7 Years later, this printer is still going!:
We bought this printer new almost 7 years ago. We use it networked with an external JetDirect device and we added the duplex option. This All-in-one is a workhorse. We have printed countless double-sided PDF technical manuals, photos, documents, etc. Our PCs have moved across Windows versions 97, 2000, and to XP and the only incompatibility issue we had was that network drivers for XP were slow to release, but the USB driver was ready early on. I was surprised a reviewer said it didn't work with 2000 because we had one machine already on 2000 when we bought this and it was no trouble at all. I will admit the software for the scanning/fax is a little quirky, but with a little trial and error it has worked just fine. Print quality is great, nothing but praise for the hundreds of pages of faxing and copying. As it ages though, the scanner is becoming an issue as it is so much slower than the new models for complicated images in higher resolutions.
