Amazon.com Review: Measuring blood pressure and pulse rate at home, in the office, and while traveling is easy with this battery-operated desktop device. The simple instructions for obtaining a proper reading are inside the unit's cover. Simply wrap the wrist cuff around the left wrist, rest the elbow on a table or counter, and press the "start" button. The unit automatically inflates the cuff and, after a reading has been obtained, deflates it. (The cuff fits wrists from 5.4 to 7.8 inches in circumference and stores in a compartment under the cover.) For tracking blood pressure over time, there's a memory button that permits up to 14 readings for each of two people to be stored, complete with a time/date stamp. A doctor can then recall readings from the unit. The unit's large, easy-to-read LCD screen shows various symbols if something goes wrong--for example, a hand movement or improper cuff attachment--so corrections can be made to obtain a proper reading. The unit measures 5 inches wide, 3 inches high, and 7-1/2 inches deep, requires four AA batteries (not included) and carries a one-year warranty against defects. A blow-up pad upon which to rest the wrist is included, but it's not particularly easy to keep inflated while the plug is being inserted and is, in any case, not necessary. --Fred Brack
Easy to use and understand: I was pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it is to use this device. The directions are simple and to the point, and almost anyone can use this item to keep track of their blood pressure. I am totally satisfied with the Lumiscope 1090 Desktop Blood Pressure Monitor.
Great until it breaks: I had this machine for 2 years. For the first year it worked terrifically, having accuracy even the doctors were amazed at. Shortly after having it for one year, the machine broke down. Sent it to Lumiscope for repair but since it was a few months out of warranty had to pay for the repair. Think it was $20. The machine worked for a few months thereafter and then again broke. Sent it a second time to Lumiscope; again a repair charge. About 6 months later, it finally gave out and I threw it out. So the machine which cost me originally $79 plus some $40 for repair, actually cost almost $120 for less than two years of usage.
