The software provides interactive lessons that truly immerse users in the language. The two CD-ROMs enclosed are from EuroTalk, a European publisher of language-learning software. Talk Now! and World Talk will take users from beginning to intermediate levels using fun and easy-to-follow methods. Talk Now! Mandarin Chinese is designed for beginners who want to start learning a new language as soon as possible. Whether on a business or vacation trip, or even when meeting a foreign visitor, Talk Now! is the CD to use. By hearing and practicing authentic everyday speech, the user's natural ability for language will develop. The EuroTalk CDs are designed to be fun. The program uses quizzes, games, and stories to help reinforce the lessons learned. The second CD-ROM, World Talk Mandarin Chinese, is the next level up from Talk Now!, and goes on to the next stage with new activities, added dictation, and a new recording section. Topics covered include the calendar, building sentences, asking directions, and using numbers. With the recording feature, users can hear and compare their voices with those of a variety of native speakers.
Immersion Mandarin Chinese 2 CD-ROM: It's different than what I have used before. But, it's great for folks who already have a little bit of Chinese language exposure.
I liked it..: This was a good CD for beginners like myself. It was proven effective...when I talked to friends who spoke Mandarin..they understood..so hey! Although...when they replied...it was another story :)
Instant Immersion Mandarin Chinese Review: I find the format difficult to follow unless you know the lanuage. It is not good for a beginner, but someone who is more advance in the lanuage, say someone that had already studied it for a year.
Inacurate and worthless.: I bought this a long time ago when I first started studying Chinese. All my Chinese friends looked at me like I was nuts when I tried to speak out of it. I spent 4 years in China studying Chinese. When I came home I saw this and popped it in the drive. Wow! I do not see how anyone could ever learn from this. Most of it isn't even all that accurate. I consider this product to be a HUGE waste of money and time. With much of it, even if you repeated it exactly as they do, it would not help you any.
Cheap, fun, noun vocabulary builder, great for what they are: Review for Instant immersion, 2cdrom set (as an aside, the instant immersion 8cd, version 2 is really different). These are 'Talk Now' and 'World Talk' (from Eurotalk) programs which are sold in the US under a few different names because the actual s/w is licensed to distributors who package it named as they wish. This review is for the 1st cd, 'Talk Now'. These have the simple review and games such a the color game, the body part game, the numbers game. As an example, for colors, the review shows the colors and has the chinese character on the left and the english word on the right. two 'cardboard cutout' characters, a man and a woman, pronounce the word. For the game, the woman names 4 colors as they appear on a palette and then the man says a color and you click on the right one. if you get it wrong, he says the name of the color that you picked, then no and you see an X on the color. The right color gets you a yes, and a check-mark. pro: simple pictures associated with each word. man and woman voice for each word keeps track of progress in games you can record your voice to playback/hear it. words and phrases are in categories kids (and many adults) love it. will run on windows 95-xp and mac. con: some words not the same as on other dvd or dictionary. example (my phonetic): bee and not bee-dz for nose. man and woman's mouth does not track the word - cannot be used to shape your mouth and annoying if you watch them. words are not necessarily the 200 (or however many) most used no pinyin - which is good for knowing the tone used. I like this program and my kids do too. Its great for vocabulary and to use as a supplement to other programs. If you tried the free fluenz, lesson 3 demo, which teaches you the easiest, most flexible to say 'I want X', then you can learn plenty of X's with this program to fill in the blank. This program is not good for learning to speak chinese itself as there is no explanation of word choice for the phrases and some phrases are way to complex for a 'i want to learn how to speak with minimum work and maximum flexibility' plan. Check out the different DVD series, like Jade, MeiMei, and/or BenBoo (LanguageTree) - they can get you started with the talking and basic word help. If you've got money, go with something like fluenz which has a person talking, explanation, pinyin and english.
