Used only a few times and broke!!!: I purchased this printer and only used it only a few times before the rear paper feeder roller stopped working. It just makes this loud clicking sound like it's trying to engage but can't. I checked for any paper jams and their are none. So I think this printer must have a defective or broken gear or a problem along those lines. I emailed tech support and I am waiting for a response. This is frustrating.
Disappointing: I have owned the Brother MFC6800 for around 4 years now. Most of this time has been related to living with compromises. This machine has performed below my expectations over the long term. Here are some reasons why: 1. Scanning is too slow. The scanner seems to scan inch by inch. For every inch it moves forward, it jumps back a half inch. The quality of the scan is great though. 2. After the first toner and drum wore off, I have had a miserable time getting the replacements to work. I tried Brothers toner and drum and later, some from ABC ink. These are very expensive (high cost of ownership). Whatever I printed or copied had streaks or too much greys in them. Some forums I visited said that cheaper alternatives do not work with Brother's products. 3. The machine makes a significant amount of noise when warming up to print. I am in the market for a laser MFC now and will be avoiding purchasing a Brother. Probably will lean towards a HP or a Canon.
smooth transaction, exact product, nice & easy supplier: exact product at an affordable price w a smooth transaction
Unhappy with this item: 1) Awesomely cumbersome software and operation, 2) poor quality copies with one edge always dark (new drum & cartridge did not fix this), 3) no envelope tray, 4) scans of photos come out distorted, 5) poor quality instructions and troubleshooting, 6) expensive drum replacement. Take my advice, buy something else.
Not bad!: I've owned this piece of equipment for 7 or 8 years I think. A really long time. It has been very reliable up until the last year or so. Hey, if you get 6 or 7 years' use out of something like this it's not bad. Word on the scanner: The scanner is very low quality. I've never been able to get a decent scan out of it. It's totally useless if you want to scan in your old photos for posterity. It is however functional enough for routine business activities. Scanning documents to email to clients and such. It's fine for that. But if you really want high image quality - this isn't the machine. The printer has for all practical purposes stopped working. It still prints as long as I only do a few pages at a time - 8-10 pages. Anymore than that it starts leaving black streaks all over the page. I thought it was because it was running out of toner - so I replaced the cartridge with a brand new one and still have the problem. I figure it's simply time to get a new printer. Goodbye old friend! It got the job done while it lasted - a good value for the money but I wouldn't recommend buying a used one from anyone if you're considering that. I could pawn this one off for a few dollars and the buyer would have no way of knowing about the printer problem until he tried to print more than 12 pages at a time. If they only printed a few pages at a time they wouldn't discover the problem till it was too late! So my advice, don't buy a used one!
