lightweight!: The Alpine Scratcher is pretty much exactly what it claims to be. Something you might not think of, however, is how light it is. That means, when kitty goes after the very tempting hanging carpet-covered mouse in the tunnel, the entire alpine scratcher can and will rove around the floor, possibly flipping in the process. I'm considering placing anti-skid pads on the bottom, sticking it to a corner, and or weighting the thing down with a brick or two. So far my kitten has been much more interested in the tunnel-toy, and hasn't scratched a thing on the Alpine Scratcher, but maybe that will change. If your cat likes cardboard as a scratcher, this could be a wonderful thing. If you're finicky about your cat accessories matching your decor, you may have a problem, unless your house is full of campy cartoonish multi-colored drawings of cats wearing lederhosen! Overall, it's certainly a reasonable choice for an inexpensive scratcher, if your cat is into cardboard and ramps, in particular. I would not pay $15 for it, as some places advertise, but I'd consider $9.99 marginally reasonable for a large cardboard contraption. Addendum: By storing one of my dumbells with one end tucked in the tunnel opening, I can easily anchor the scratcher and avoid finding it in the middle of the hallway at odd hours....
