My boy liked it but it took a long time and it was a mess.

Fun, easy science project:
Our six year-old received this geode kit as a gift and we really enjoyed doing it together. Some of the chemicals can be harmful and one of the steps requires boiling water, so adult supervision is definitely required. This is one of those projects that you want to do with your kid, anyway, just because it's fun and interesting. This is a project that requires patience, both in preparing the mix and in waiting for the crystals to form. It's fun to watch the crystals each day, though, and see how much they've grown and changed. After casting the geode and putting it into the growing solution, we started to see crystal growth within 24hrs, but we left it to let the crystals grow for a week. In the end, we had a really nice, fairly sturdy geode. A previous reviewer mentioned that the kit was messy, and I can see where that could be the case, but it's really not bad. Unless you're spilling water and powders all over the place, the only mess you'll have to clean up is a dirty dish or two, so just be careful. Overall, it was a fun, relatively educational family project.

A messy deal to grow:
Very messy in my eyes- would not really recommend- but if you must buy it use lots of newspapers when mixing.
