printer:
Printer works great, but write-up made it sound as though it has internal wi-fi, but it doesn't still neeed to hook router up to it to make it wireless. Kind of defeated my purpose having to purchase another peice of equipment to set it up the way I wanted to.

Great all purpose printer:
I have used this printer for about 2 months now. It is really easy to setup and get running either direct connect or via wireless. It is very fast when printing single sided. It is quite a bit slower with double-sided printing mostly because it waits for the 1st side to dry before printing the 2nd side. But it is not too bad if you need 2-sided printing. Although maybe not as good as a high-end photo printer, it has produced 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 photos (used only HP premium gloss so far) that are as good as I get from Sam's club, etc. I do use Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Photoshop and use the printer calibration files (and of course monitors cal. files) - almost essential for good pictures. So far, good B & W ink usage for documents the kids print for school reports, etc. 140 pages so far (not counting 15 4x6's, 6 5x7s and 2 8x10s photos) and have 8 out of 10 bars left on the "est. ink" display. So should be good for at least 400-500 pages -- I hope ! After about 1mo, got one for my son at college. He setup easily and has not had any problems either. However, you should download the current driver to avoid a "spooler" error that I had on 1 system, but none of the others (all Win XP).

Disaster printer:
I have had, and have fought with, this printer for over 12 months now (system: Dell PC, XP, then Vista Ultimate). I have never been able to get the 6980 lemon to work correctly on either my wireless or ethernet connection. Usually my PC says the printer is "offline." When I finally get it "online" it usually doesnt print, and if it does print, generally stops midway through job for no reason. Also frequent jamming. I have always had (had is the operative word) stellar experience with HP printers, but this one is definitely the Britney Spears of printers. Tech support was no help whatsoever except to say "you should uninstall Vista and go back to XP because we will not support this printer on Vista." I should also add that the constant "pop ups" urging me to get some HP Printer software updates (about 3x per week) is overbearing and exceedingly annoying given that a) the updates generally crash before installing; and b) even those that do install do nothing to make this printer Vista capable. My goal with a printer is to be able to hit "print" on my document or browser, and have my printer respond and print the document. Simple, am I asking too much? But with each job, it has turned into a 60 minute + "battle" to get this thing to respond. So alas the 6980 has beaten me - it has won. I am putting the printer, as is, on the curb with a sign (hand written since I cant print one!) saying "take me if you want a challenge." I just bought a Brother printer as a replacement (no more $ thrown away at HP). To the 6980 I say "good bye, good riddance - I hope you get run over by the garbage truck." And to HP I say, get with the times, start producing some Vista drivers or at the least put HUGE RED warning stickers on printers that are not vista capable. And please send me the 20 + hours of my life that I have wasted trying to get this Edsel to print a lousy MS Word document. Boy, since the flubbed compaq merger HP has gone down hill at speeds that Bode Miller would envy.

Color Printer:
ordered this for my wife and daughters while deployed to iraq. they were able to set it up without assistance and it worked perfectly. what more could you ask for?

Excellent Machine!:
This is one of the best ink jet printers I have ever owned. It replaced a 5 year old HP that I loved, and simply was warn out. This unit had all the features I was looking for- wireless, duplexing, and extra paper storage. I have had it one year with no problems. The wireless was pretty easy to set up (had to use a wired connection first), and it supports WEP and WPA. The print quality is very good. I don't print a lot of photos, but when I do, they look great. I use it mostly for general text and some color print outs. I would recommend this to anyone with modest needs and who don't want to have another cable!
