Amazon.com Review: Beautiful enough to bring to the table, yet durable enough to outlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this heavy casserole is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving dishes such as choucroute garni and braised lamb shanks. The oval shape handles big cuts of meat and big birds. Use it in the oven or on the stovetop for soups and chili. Made of cast-iron, which is unexcelled for its heat distribution and retention, the French oven cooks foods evenly and gently without hot spots at low temperatures and is suitable for all heat sources. The oven holds 6-3/4 quarts, and its exterior and interior are clad in two coats of Le Creuset's famous bright enamel. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is oven-safe to 450 degrees F. Loop handles facilitate carrying, and the casserole is dishwasher-safe. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it is hand-cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand-finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. The French oven measures 10-1/7 by 15-1/4 by 7 inches. --Fred Brack
Le Creuset: The product was of good quality but extremely overpriced based on subsequent findings. In fact I returned the item (and I have been waiting for a refund for nearly three weeks now!) because I found it locally in a cooking store at a price of more than $100 less than what I paid Amazon. Even with paying postage both ways totalling $40.00 the new source was a better deal. So much for Amazon's assertions of competitive prices and good customer service. I returned the item to you under RMA 0102-150549839 per your return policy on January 2, 2008. Although I have communicated with the department and know that they have received the item back, I'm still waiting for an Le Creuset 6-3/4 Quart Wide French Oven, Kiwiactual result.
fantastic: I ordered this as a Christmas gift. It quickly arrived with a nice note. I was very pleased.
Quality: This is about the best piece of cookware I have bought in years - it has inspired me to make soup, sauces and more. It is a joy to use. Clean up is a snap also. Highly recommend this size for 4 people (always enough room for some extras to become tomorrows lunch).
NO REGRETS WITH THIS GREAT POT!: I am a "from scratch" cook and had had a Le Creuset pot on my wish list for quite a while. This beautiful French Oven was a gift to myself this Christmas, and I wish I had bought it years ago. I bought the oval, since I plan on trying some recipes with whole chickens. The 6-3/4 quart is just right--not too big, not to small. It makes awesome tender Yankee pot roast, start to finish. Chili is a dream, from browning the meat to a never-gets-cold-in-this-heavy-pot presentation at the table! You can't go wrong with this gift, either for yourself or a friend!
My Favorite Pot in the Kitchen!: I waited forever before I finally broke down and bought my first Le Creuset. I finally gave in and just hoped that it was money well spent. Well, I have not regretted my decision for a second. Not only does this pot look great just sitting out for display on the stove, but it cooks like a dream. I use it for so many dishes, and clean up is a breeze. If you've been shy about getting one, don't be. It's a sound and safe investment -- not like one you might make via Wall Street!
