great for woodworking shop use:
I bought this as a gift for a friend with a woodshop in a converted garage but I have used it as much as he has. Very quick to make adjustments to the hole size while it is mounted in the drill chuck. I make clocks as gifts and the imported clock works always have a metric diameter. With this tool I can use the metric measurements as well as the inch marks so this is not a problem. In the past I have used a plunge router but this tool is much faster to setup and use and I don't need any where near as much space, just a drill press. I use a friends 1/2 HP drill press and I found I got the best results when cutting plywood and very hard wood at 400-600 RPM. At slower speeds the torque was too much for the belt drive drill press. I was still amazed to use this inexpensive drill press to easily cut 8" holes in 3/4" plywood with this hole cutter. The cost of this tool is about the cost of a single quality 5" hole saw and I can replace the blades in seconds for a big savings at $10 a pair for the high speed steel blades. And my friend's drill press would never be able to drive a 5" hole saw in wood in the first place. I have bought and thrown away other single and double blade hole cutters as their blade holders would loosen and the blades would dull quickly. Hard to do good work with cheap tools, and for the cost of the materials involved in a project it makes no sense. I was really happy to find this company's products. They are built to last. I have given a couple to people as gifts knowing they will be using them many years from now and hopefully remembering the great guy that gave it to them. The plastic case is a quality one too, and great for storing the hole cutter and the hex wrench and spare blades all in one place. Even though everything on the cutter is chrome plated I like to store my shop tools in their own cases as much as possible.
