great set great price:
Santa brought this for my 3 yr old son (and his 5yr old sister) My husband put it together in a few minutes and they were off to the races. It has been set up on the floor for a week now and they just go to it whenever they want to race. You do need to wipe the dust off, even a little bit will affect the cars , but a quick blow and wipe with a paper towel, no problem. I would definately recommend this toy, it is just right for a starter set and you can have two track set ups, figure 8 or just and oval.
Read before you buy:
It's awesome once you buy the batteries... i had one of these when i was a kid... and it plugged into the wall... this one has a battery pack that takes 4 D batteries... Let me go back to 1980 and get them... come on... who has these lying around? But once you get the batteries... hours of mindless drunk racing fun!
Nice little starter set!:
Bought this for my 5yo son as a "starter" slot car set intending to expand on it or upgrade it when he gets older. I remember playing with my old Tyco set for years and years and having fun modifying cars, making accessories, etc. This little set, though simple, will keep little guys enterained - especially the straight section of the track where the track swerves and the two cars can collide! The only con is that it runs on 4 "D" batteries and both cars share this power so they can deplete the batteries quickly. Fortunately, my experience in electronics allowed me to build a power supply to plug into the wall eliminating the need to buy costly alkaline batteries.
HotWheels Race Track:
You get what you pay for in this toy. For the entry level excitment of slot car racing for my five year old, this this toy did the job. Although the excitement was short-lived for this toy, I was glad I paid under 20bucks. The batteries that you need, which i wasn't aware of until x-mas eve, cost me 3/4's of the price of this toy. The quality is very cheap. I broke two pieces of the track putting it together the first time. But, for the price and the age of my child it was worth it.
Flimsy fun:
My slot car set was one of my favorite toys as a child, so I bought one for my nephew. I don't remember if mine was this flimsy. The track junctions are very sloppy, but the cars seem to go over well enough. We had to custom build the overpass supports as the included ones didn't keep the track level.
