The Sodium Bicarbonate tablets were obviously old. They had crystallized and had an "old" taste.

I buy these once a year for my wife. Her doctor says she needs them. Beats paying the pharmacist $120/yr. for the same thing filled monthly! I've ordered twice now and the tablets have been fine each time.
