About Candy Land Candy Land is one of Hasbro's most popular board game for young children. It is often the first board game played by children, since it requires only basic counting skills and features a fun and colorful candy theme. With such endearing characters as King Kandy and Princess Lolly, Candy Land has appealed to generations of young gamers. What's in the Box The game includes King Kandy's Castle, four gingerbread kid gameboards, 18 brightly-colored tokens and instructions.
Wonderful variation of a childhood game: We bought this for my 2 yr old daughter and 2 yr old niece and they absolutely love it. It teaches them their shapes and colors and they love to win. I grew up playing candy land the board game and I think this is a cute way for my girls to grow up with candy land.
Way to simple for most children above 2 yrs. old!: I thought this would have been a bit more involved, considering its for 3+ kids. NOT! It is the most simple of board games, just matching the 4 shapes and/or colors of the 4 playing pieces on each board game. It looks cute, but has no educational value for any child who has practice in basic colors and shapes. I'm a pre-school teacher, 3-5 yr. olds, so I have a pretty good idea of what children this age are capable of and this games offers them no challenge whatsoever! I think the age suggestion is due the slight possibility of a younger child swallowing the (large) playing pieces, IDK, but its totally off by at least a year or two for any normal 3 yr. old I know. Don't waste your money here.
LOVE IT!: Love this...I have 2 and 3 year old boys and they love it. The older boy learns turn taking, waiting and shapes while the younger boy learns colors, simple shapes and loves pulling the candy cane. It stores nicely and easily. We've played it almost everyday since Christmas.
It's okay...: This is a very durable, well-made game with the whimsical candyland castle and the oversized gingerbread persons. The game is played by placing the tokens into the chimney of the plastic candy castle and then using the candy cane lever to access the chute which spits out a token, one by one. Each player has a cardboard gingerbread man with four indented shapes (each shape is a specific color). When it is your turn, you pull the lever and, if you have that specific shape indentation on your gingerbread board, you keep it and it's the next player's turn. If you do not need that piece, you place it back into the chimney and the game moves on. This is a good, quick game for a child but my sons (age 5, 3, and 2) are quickly bored with it. The only thing they really enjoy doing is pulling the lever (so much that I'm afraid it'll break!). I really want to like this game but if the kids are bored, it's not really worth the purchase.
Don't buy from Amazon: We purchased this on sale over the holidays, and when it arrived without the game boards Amazon refused to replace (after the price had increased again) only refund out deeply discounted price only after we shipped the toy back. Buy it somewhere else.
