Mackenzie Lyons is the lead detective investigating the murder of a senator. It seems the deceased has been mauled by a canine and Mac needs an expert's help. She goes to the Stone Corporation to talk to its CEO, Rafael Stone, who also happens to be the founder of the Lykos Institute, which specializes in wolves. Turned away by security, Mackenzie finds another way to talk to Mr. Stone. Rafael Stone is leaving the Stone Corporation for a meeting when security alerts him to a police detective wanting to talk with him. Rafe has his security guard get the detective's card and forgets the incident. Late for his meeting, Rafael gets into his limo and is surprised to find an attractive female police officer packing a weapon, flashing a badge, and asking questions about wolves. Enchanted by her audacity, Rafe agrees to have one of his guns tested and sends the detective back to her car. Once she is gone, Rafael immediately calls his brothers and reports the huge problem the detective was questioning him about. The three brothers know exactly what is wrong and who is causing trouble, but they know that there is no way they can trust Detective Lyons with this information. Or can they? They have no choice when Rafael is hurt and has to shift in front of Mackenzie. Her reaction surprises him; could it be that Rafe has finally found his mate? Of course things just aren't simple and cut and dry. More deaths occur and the evidence continues to add up against Rafael Stone. Now it is up to Mackenzie to clear the name of the man she has come to crave. Lycan Instinct by Brandi Broughton was a unique werewolf tale. I found myself unable to sleep until I finished this book. Mackenzie Lyons was the perfect mate for an alpha. She did her job according to the rules, looked at every aspect of her investigation, and relied on her instinct. Then, to top if off, she made sacrifices for her man. Rafael Stone was just plain yummy. A bit more reclusive and close mouthed that I usually like, I soon realized that his quiet and secretive ways protected those he cared about the most. From beginning to end Lycan Instinct kept me in its grip and would not allow me to put it down. I thought it unique, suspenseful, and the sparks flew between the two lovers. I am now anxiously awaiting Lycan Packs, Book 2 from Ms. Broughton. She has me hooked! Talia reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed
